Do you think you could raffle a business?

Headless Lois, 19 March, 2009 at 17:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I know people have done it with houses - set a price per ticket and unless a minimum number of tickets sell then there's no raffle (and everyone getts their money back). Could you do it without a business? Or do I need to give it away free with a packet of crisps or something?

Well it might be possible but in practice it would be a total nightmare. For instance:

    - you can't just raffle it unless money goes to charity - you'd need it to be a skill competition - see Gambling Commission's website

    - with a house legally completing the win is pretty straight forward as you pretty much just register new owner at the Land Registry but with a business there are all manner of complications particularly if this is not run via a separate company.

    Hi

Assuming you were serious (and I am thinking it was more a OMG I need to get rid of a busisness!!!) then it is possible,. A local restaurant is doing this very thing. They have a website (which I don't know) but if you Google 'Arbour Lights' 'Walsall' then you should be able to find it. (<lazycowicon> cos if I was really helpful I woudl have done it and posted the website as well).

Someone is raffleing Madame Clarke's coffee shop in Wolverhampton. £15 a ticket - to be refunded if not enough sold. (May be it is a West Midland thing) They want to concentrate on their coffee shop in Telford. I wonder if it is a publicity stunt!
