Doctors / Medical types - Chicken Pox

C.G., 18 September, 2008 at 11:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

My Ex has just called me to tell me that my son has Chicken Pox (poor little man). Now, I've had it at least once - my mother can't remember if I've had it twice or not, but i think i might have.

It is my weekend to have him. Normally it wouldn't bother me and I wouldn't think twice about having him - he is just as well being ill with me than he is being ill with his mother.

However, i am due to go on holiday on Wednesday. I could do with knowing risks etc. He has got the spots now and they first appeared on Tuesday. Am i in danger of getting shingles? Would they let me fly? Do i really want to go away if i get shingles?

I'm between surgeries at the moment and my old surgery won't discuss it with me! I'm just after a bit of advice. I can't google as my office connection won't let me look at the majority of the search results...

Its likely, if you've had CP, that you are immune.

Shingles is the reactivation of the CP in your own body rather than what adults get when they are exposed to CP (which is what some people think)

He would have been in the infectious period but even if you aren't immune there is no guarantee that you would get it. I would still carry on with your holiday unless you come down tih spots the night before.

That's what i thought. I am sure i have been with people that have had CP and not feared catching it as i was invincible immune.

I don't want to not see him as i only get him once a fortnight. So to miss this weekend means it will be a month. And i only had him one day last time as he had a minor operation on the saturday. Poor little fella has been through the mill the last few weeks!

I'll have him as planned then this weekend unless someone else comes on here and tells me some horror story!
