Documents required to give Notice - DILEMMA, please help! :(

FelicityChaplin, 9 January, 2010 at 19:33 Posted on Planning 0 12

OK, so we provisionally booked our wedding date but unbeknown to me you only get 30 days to give notice before losing the date!!!
We have a real crisis on our hands in regards to the documents required to take along and don't think we have sufficient ID. ☹️
I'm going to list what we have and can someone please advise if these are suitable. Thanks!

Me:
Full birth certificate
Solicitors letter stating name change
Recent wage slip with name and address on it.
Jobcentre letter advising that I signed off.
P45 with name and address on it.

Fiance:
Full birth certificate (being ordered Monday)
Passport (expired)
NHS card
PAPERLESS bank statement and Virgin Media bill - Can these be printed out and used as proof of address?
Jobcentre letter.

We both live with my Mum and therefore do not have utility bills besides the Virgin Media bill which is Paperless.
I do not have a bank account or passport.

Any help would be so very appreciated.
I'm proper stressed and upset about this.

Ridiculous that a 2 British citizens need so much ID to get married in their own country. ☹️

I'm pretty sure you need a photo ID...

Give them a call Monday and ask which documents you're allowed to use but I'm almost certain you need photo ID

We worried about what to take and ended up taking far more bits of paper than we needed! They looked at my passport (but a birth cert will do) and a wage slip with my address. OH took passport and a bill. We also took a letter from the council with both our names on but I can't remember them looking at it at all and I think we also took bank statements and birth certs that didn't get looked at.

Wow have they really asked for all that stuff?! Mines just asked for both our birth certificates, the notice forms and that's it! It also says on my form that if getting the birth certificates will delay us sending back the notice forms, to send the notice forms back ASAP and then the ID whenever we can (but before the wedding obviously!!) Could you do that? Might be worth asking?

    Well I looked on the website for our local office and it says this;

When you attend the Register Office, to apply for a notice, you will need to produce documents to confirm your name, age, marital status and nationality. These documents must be original documents and /or a certified copy certificate (issued by a Register Office) are required, photocopies are not acceptable.

    We prefer:

    • Your birth certificate
    • A passport, if you have one,

    Also required:

    • If you have been widowed, the death certificate of your former spouse.
    • If you are divorced, a decree absolute bearing the court's original stamp. Some overseas divorces may have to be referred to the General Register Office for clearance (with a certified translation if appropriate) and may take longer than the minimum 15 clear days.
    • Deed Poll or statutory declaration documents if you have changed your name.
    • A completed parental consent form if you are under 18 years old.
    • A recent utility bill, driving licence or bank statement

We both have full birth certificates, and my fiance has a bank account and Virgin media account - though he gets electronic bills, not paper ones.

I on the other hand do not have either, and can't get either due to living with my Mum and having bad credit. I do have a job though, and have wage slips which have both my name and address on them.

People are saying that one of us needs photo ID, but neither of us do and there is no way we can afford to get it by February 4th (last day to give Notice before we lose our booking.)

I'm so miserable about this right now. ☹️

Don't stress - it'll be ok. If I were you, I'd take the birth certificates, a printed bill for your OH, your wage slip and see what they say. Like I said, mine says that I can give in the notice forms and supply ID afterwards if there are problems obtaining it. So if you do that you will have given notice and if they say they need anything else then you should just be able to get that to them later. You've got 3 weeks to get this sorted so just go down with those first bits soon as you can and it will all be fine!

    Thank you babysarahx ?,
Hopefully we will be able to do this if what we have isn't sufficient.

Wedding is September 4th, so I'll definitely be able to get a passport sorted between now and close to then.

    Cheers everyone else! ?
I'm going to go put my feet up and stop stressing now!

I live in Middlesbrough and am getting married in a local church then on to a hotel for the reception. I've got my cars and photographer booked but nothing else, I feel way behind compared to some of the very organised hitchers on here?

How are you getting along with your planning?
