There are quite a lot of standard chain type places - Ibis, Travelodge, Premierinn. You could try these people too: http://www.cliftonhotels.com/

Might sound strange but have you tried the YHA? I've stayed there (albeit years ago) and its pretty nice...

I stayed in a fantastic B&B in Bristol last weekend. It's called the Greenhouse:

A really wonderful place, lovely rooms, great owner and although not right in the City Centre, it's only a 5 minute walk to the Harbour and 25 minutes into the centre. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had..I'd highly recommend it.

The travelodge is about £90!! Was trying to find something a little nicer that did breakfast too. I looked at clifton hotels but they are booked. Love the Avon Gorge one.

The Ibis is nice enough, and was cheap when we stayed, although it had only just opened

That's about 2 minutes from my house but I'd never heard of it! Looks fab.

    YHA = Youth Hostel.

Otherwise I'd have thought the best bet is going to be trying www.laterooms.com and expedia - though could try tourist info pages too (www.visitbristol.co.uk)

There's a lot on at the moment so everywhere's likely to be busy

It's really fab - a comfy bed and a great breakfast made the 4 hour queue for the Banksy exhibition almost bearable..

Youth hostel - https://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-bristol - its not going to be the most romantic stay you every have but definately ticks the low cost box. And as YHs go its one of the nicer ones.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have emailed your one Spangles. We went down a couple of weeks ago to the banksy exhibition but didnt have the 4 hours to queue. So the plan is to stop over Saturday night and start queuing early!

I am also going to check out the ibis and have another look at what Late Rooms have to offer.

Not sure about the Youth Hostel. Was kind of wanting somewhere a little romantic. Thats why I am diverting from the Travelodge.

I was in the 4 hr queue on Sunday, and the steward said people were there from 8am. He said he also wouldn't be at all surprised if people started getting there even earlier than that (even queueing overnight) as queues are getting worse as the closing date draws closer.

I like the Marriott on College Green in the City Centre. The breakfasts are amazing! All the usual fry up stuff and more, cereals, pancakes, syrup, fresh fruit, meat, cheese, it has to be seen to be believed!

Is it worth it though? Now h2b is suggesting we ditch it and stay nr wells instead, maybe visit wookey hole and cheddar gorge instead.

Try serviced apartments instead - mates used Premier Apartments, and booked them on short notice on a silly busy weekend (Banksy + Balloon Fiesta). No breakfast, but that's why coffee shops were invented, surely?

Otherwise, try Future Inn, opposite Cabot Circus.

Is it worth it? Me, I'm waiting for the book.

Well I loved it, but I like Banksy's stuff anyway, and I'm a sucker for an 'I was there' moment to bore other people's grandchildren with in years to come!

I also loved the exhibition and thought it was well worth the wait. I guess it helped that it wasn't raining.

I thought there was a really nice atmosphere in the queue - it was such an eclectic mix of people and we ended up chatting to some really interesting people around us.

In an ideal world the Museum would have worked out a timed ticket system, but considering it was a 4 hour wait I don't think it was too bad.
