Does anyone know about hormones and supplements? (possibly TMI)

Dumpling, 9 January, 2009 at 10:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Could do with a bit of practical advice before I go dashing off to the chocolate machine!

It has become apparent (I can't even spell today so I'm not sure if that's right) to me that I suffer from Post Menstrual Syndrome. I have quite short cycles (24 days max), don't suffer from the normal Pre MT but get so depressed and yeuch a day or so after my period has ended.

Today I'm sitting here on the verge of hormonal tears and find that I'm gritting my teeth so hard that my jaw is aching.

I know that it's only one day per cycle and in the grand scheme of things it's not that big an issue but I figure it might be worth considering taking a supplement if anything is suitable.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Evening Primrose Oil or Starflower Oil are what most people end up taking, I think. Starflower oil is supposed to have more of whatever the active ingredient is.

I suffered from bad PMT when I was a teenager, but at that age hormones are generally all over the place anyway, plus I think a large dollop of teenage angst was probably mixed in. I went to the GP at the time, and was prescribed vitamin B6.

I have no idea if any of them were effective or not - the PMT was definately less after I started taking the vitamins, but that could have been a placebo effect or just starting to grow out of it.

Many thanks for your response. Do you need to take the oils all the time?

I'm not that worried about the placebo effect as long as there is an effect!

    Cheers

I think you take them once a day. I haven't used them for years, though.

Thank you. I'll nip into H & B at lunch and grab some.
