Does anyone speak cat?

Old Nick Esq., 18 June, 2009 at 10:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I'm cat sitting.

Apart from staying out till all hours, the cat in question won't shut up. It mews plaintively constantly.

She's fed, watered, litter is changed and the window is open so she can come and go as she pleases. She'll come over for a bit of a pet/stroke sits a minute or two purring, then takes off like she's been burnt and starts mewing again.

Any ideas?

Some cats just like cahtting I think. If she was ill or in pain, she wouldn;t be eating normally or coming for cuddles.

My cat is super quiet unless she wants something - she sort of does a 'hi' when she comes in but that is it

you need to know if she normally does this or not - has she got a sore paw or something?

Mine is very vocal and chats a lot. This morning she's been really grumbly because there was a magpie in the garden taunting her. She often complains when I've left the back door open too.

Have you ever looked after the cat before? Could it be that she just misses her owner? My dad's cats tend to miss him when he's away from them.

Mine is very vocal. sometimes it's because he wants picking up for a cuddle (as opposed to just stroking). If you follow her when she mews, where does she go/what does she do? Maybe you've forgotten some vital treat that her owners give her but forgot to tell you about? If I follow mine he either - rolls on the floor (indicates he wants fuss and attention), goes to the door (wants letting out, even though catflap is available ?), or goes to his food bowl (wants more or isn't happy with what's on offer - he's fussy).

It might just be missing the owner, it's the world's most pampered mog. I know children from good homes with less toys. She does 'know' me though.

(at this point, in another forum, I might say something about a single girl in her mid 30's and substitution.... But I'd get shouted at on Hitched)

Currently sleeping on top of "mummy's" laundry.... I should move her I suppose....

My cat is very vocal too. It either means:

    - I want tinned tuna! (He would eat it all day if he could, but I won't let him because it's too salty. I mix about a half teaspoon into his food so it tastes of tuna, but isn't too much)

    - It's bedtime. (At 11pm he hassles me to go to bed)

    - I want attention and cuddles.

    - I'm wet and want to be rubbed dry!

I agree with Mrs Roo about the following thing. I follow mine round the house for him to tell me what he wants. Have you got any cat toys? Mine likes being teased with long string, fluffy mice and balls and will hassel for that too.

Also, how old is the cat? Someone told me that as cats age they lose their hearing and so meow a lot because they can't hear themselves.

However it's probably that he's a bit confused because the usual owners aren't there.
