Does boredom make you tired?

AnnaBanana, 4 August, 2008 at 08:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

My job is very boring at the moment but I get home feeling very tired and sleepy...I feel I shouldn't be as i'm not doing much at work so should be full of energy. Anyone else get this?

Yes - it definitely does. Days when I have very little to do just drag by interminably. And I'm shattered when I get home.

Definitely. The other thing I found was that I'd spent so much time thinking about what I would do in the evening that I couldn't be bothered to actually do it once I got home. I found being bored at work had so much (negative) impact on my home life.

Oh good, not just me then! Im working my 3 months notice before moving to another job and its hellish, just 2 weeks in so 9 still to go! ?

have lost all motivation so the hours drag by. I get home wanting to do loads of stuf and can't be bothered either. Even worse, H's job is very busy so he wants to chill at weekends when I want to be doing lots of stuff. <sigh>

Yep, been there and its horrible. Could you negotiate your 3 months notice down at all? Do you have work to do or just no motivation to do it?

Any chance of using the time to do some work / study of your own, discreetly?

Depending on what type of job your new one is, you could start preparing for it. I've been reading 'the first 90 days' http://www.amazon.co.uk/First-90-Days-Critical-Strategies/dp/1591391105/ref=pd_sbs_b?ie=UTF8&qid=1217837272&sr=8-2 which has got some useful tips on what to do when you first join a company. I really feel that this time when I start my new job I'll have a bit of a framework to work within, as opposed to last time when I was just floating around waiting for my line manager to give me some direction.

I havent got a definite start date for the new job as it is subject to security checks which can take 8 weeks give or take. so...im going to have to sit it out until then and once the checks come back (if it is in 8 weeks) negotiate to leave then...

Thanks OZ, that book looks really good, hadn't even thought of that!

H works at the same place and he has given me a link to some online training things which I can start with. I'd love to start reading about the projects id be working on but I can't until the clearance comes through.
