Does changing your ceremony venue affect your notice?

Canary, 29 January, 2013 at 07:56 Posted on Planning 0 7

As per the title really? Anyone know if this makes a difference?

Our registrar said that if we changed the venue, we would need to give notice again (and pay again)

Yes it does. When we went to give notice we said we might change our mind about venue, and she said we couldnt give notice then as it was venue specific.

This because you give notice to get married at a certain time and in a certain place so a change would invalidate the notice you've given already. I had considered bringing forward our time on the day but with this in mind decided it wasn't worth paying the fee again.

It's not time specific but is only valid for a year. So you can change the date as long as you keep the same venue. This is what we were told by our registrar.

Kjay - apparently our vicar didn't actually book our church despite telling me he had. He's booked a different church but then it gets complicated for all sorts of reasons.

This is currently what I look like ---> ?

Absolutely yes. I have had the same issue myself. I was going to get married in the registry office, to save a bit of cash, submitted my notice and that was that. Then (stupid me) realised that the registry office was not going to be big enough to accommodate all my guests (yes, I know, facepalm, next time I will check first) (only joking) so I had to get the registrar to come to the hotel instead.

I had to re-submit the bonds (£70) and pay another £250 quid to get the registrar over to the hotel instead of seeing her at the registry office.

To be honest though, it was the best money I spent, as at least now I don't have the problem of trying to choose who will see the actual ceremony and who will not. I mean - how could I tell my guests they wouldn't actually SEE us getting married? They have waited 17 years to see it as it is!

    What a twonk I am.
