Does it really matter???

Kitles123, 18 February, 2013 at 22:20 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hey Ladies,

Just looking for some advice. I got my Wedding ring on Saturday, however it doesn't sit flush against my engagement ring due to the shape/height. The Jewellers could have made one but it would have been really expensive. Does it really matter if they don't sit flush together?

Would appreciate any advice or pics of your own rings to settle my worries.

unable to post my pic as yet as using the iPad, however will post it tomorrow from the laptop.

regards,

Katherine x

I think this is a question only you can answer.

If you like how it looks on your finger that is all that matters.

I agree with Funky, it's your choice. I have to say that I hunted in shop after shop to find a ring that fitted flush with my ER. But to be honest, my WR is always twisting round so I often wonder why I bothered.

I'd say no, it doesn't matter. Mine are pretty much flush but that's luck rather than judgement. They are very different rings, and there is a tiny gap where the stone setting pushes the wedding ring away by a fraction of a mm. Thing is, I don't always wear both rings, and probably as my marriage goes on, I'll wear the engagement ring less. My mother only wears hers when she dresses up to go out somewhere, or on special occasions. Most people of her generation are the same, from what I see at work, and I pretty much never see an engagement ring on a very elderly lady. As such, for me it was more important that my wedding ring looked OK on its own. I'd also guess that if it matters to you now, it probably won't after a few years.

Its only you that has to wear it, so only you know.

Mine was shaped to fit my ER, but as it was done in a rush before we caught a flight (long story), it wasnt made to fit perfectly. Both rings twist around from time to time, so I only notice when they are sitting flush. TBH, no one else will notice, only you.

I have been meaning to go back to get it corrected, but nearly 2yrs on, still havent been that bothered.

My first ones didn't fit together & didn't bother me. They were both a bit loose so I just tucked the wedding band under the stone in the engagement ring, but most of the time I didn't notice it. Saying that, my sis had a ring from my mum that was an odd shape, and got a bit cut out of her wedding ring so they sat together. Don't think it was that pricey

I agree with BBB, I think it's more important that a wedding ring looks good on its own. I doubt I will wear the engagement ring so much after the wedding, as I am always knocking it on things!

I spent weeks looking for a ring which would fit flush against my engagement ring, but it would have meant having one I didn't really love. In the end I just ordered the one I liked ,it's not a perfect fit together but I don't think it really matters. If it bothers you, you can probably get a jeweller to put a notch in the band ,the place I ordered mine from offered that service for an additional fee.

As others have said only you can decide whether it bothers you.

It would bother me personally but I wouldn't look at someone elses and think 'that looks odd' if you see what I mean

I'm one of those people who doesn't actually like shaped wedding rings as they look odd on their own. I found that when I had my children I wore my ER much less (for fear of catching it on their little bodies!) so prefer non-shaped WRs.

So in my view, it matters not at all.

I got my wedding ring from Alba Rose, I think they have a small shop in Essex but I did everything online,

You send off your engagement ring on next day delivery with a form giving as much detail as you like about the design of your ring and they take a 3D scan of your engagement ring, polish it send it back next day delivery the very same day! Then they incorporate your specifications into a design and send email it over to you, and this whole service only costs £25! You can then customise your wedding ring by choosing the metal, finish, diamonds and anything else.

I've been super impressed with the service and would really recommend them to anyone else.
