Does this seem like a lot for flowers?

Violet89, 13 October, 2015 at 21:35 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi peeps

I have just received a quote from a florist for my wedding flowers next September and I am a bit suprised at how expensive it is!!

I was quoted £1363 for the following - bridal bouqet, two bridesmaid bouquets, two junior bridesmaid posies, 2 wands for flower girls, 10 buttonholes, 5 small corsages, 2 gift bouquets, top table arrangement and centrepieces (candelabra, no flowers, with 3 small hired vases of loosely arranged flowers on each table (12 tables)).

The centrepieces would cost £60 a table for candelabra and three small vases, and the top table is £90 for an arrangement which just sits in front on the bride and groom.

I requested seasonal flowers in purple and white, with lavender, white roses, white heather, gypsophila, carnations, hydrangea, lisianthus dahlia and thistles as examples.

I am no flower buff, and I am not looking to get something for nothing, but does this sound like a normal amount? I can't afford this, on something so temporary. I am going to contact other florists with a view to do some portion of the centrepieces myself but just want to get some perspective??

Its a lot of money, but you want a lot of flowers. Your centerpieces will be driving up the cost massively, so can you do something else for centerpieces? Get some cheap vases and do vases of flowers from the supermarket? We went to a wedding where the couple did this and they looked lovely.

Definitely shop around though, make sure you have at least 3 quotes.

I am not a florist but in my opinion you are getting a lot for your money! I'd even go as cheeky as to say a little bit of a bargain considering 12 table centre pieces included in that Smiley smile

I have broken it down and it is really only the centrepieces which seem to be driving up the cost, the rest of it seems reasonable and average. I am probably asking too much! I have emailed 3 more florists for quotes and am going to ask this florist about supplying my own vases, candles and candelabra/centrepiecey thing, if she can just supply a few blooms for each table (10 small stems say, more for top table).

I too was shocked by my flower quote but that sounds about right. You can make savings by having more foliage, candles, lanterns etc or DIY as someone suggested. If you search for 'non-floral wedding centrepieces' in pinterest you'll get some ideas. We are doing our own quirky, non-floral arrangements but have still spent a fair amount. You also need to think about storing stuff (the spare rm has looked like Del boy's front room for the last 14 months), getting the stuff to and from the venue & setting it all up. If you DIY/have a dry hire it's cheaper but more work. It means sorting stuff at the venue the night before/morning of wedding. You need to weigh up whether it's best to let someone else take the strain so you can focus on all the other things you need to at those crucial times.

    When are you getting married?

To me it sounds a lot but it might be the variety of flowers you've picked based on the time of year?

Were going for my bouquet, 5 x Adult BM 1x junior BM 8 x button holes 3x corsages, 9 centre pieces, 3x thank you bouquets and a top table piece and the quote is £600- £700 based on the day. We're going for roses and babys breath and thistles.

I personally would say that is a lot and would shop around - We have saved a whopping £200 by going with another florist than our original plan and she is just as good, if not better.

    We are getting

    1x Bride bouquet

    4x Bridesmaid bouquets

    13x buttonholes

    2x mum corsages

    2x page boys smaller buttonholes

Flowers for 8 medium sized vases (Centrepieces)

And a spray arrangement for top table/ceremony table

I asked for a lot of Gypsophelia and roses and ivory flowers just a mixture and I have just payed £339 and that is for May next year.

My biggest saving was on the bridesmaids as the Gypsohelia bouquets are only £15 each where as my bouquet has a lot more to it ad is therefore more expensive.

For something that is so temporary it seems silly to pay that much!!

You have got a lot of flowers on your list there - and a lot of tables to arrange centerpieces for.

We've had to scale flowers back dramatically - we're only having my bouquet, BM bouquet (x1) and 2 button holes - and that's coming to around £150. The florists know their game well!

Would be worth shopping round? Especially if your centerpieces aren't even flowers - would be cheaper to do yourself, buying the things from local shops, I reckon.

How much are they charging u for the Candleabra ? I have ordered some off eBay for £15 each waiting for them to be delivered at the moment. It may be worth u shopping around and looking on gumtree for people selling these.
And for vases agree with others buy your own ikea have good ones or any supermarket.

That sounds a lot to me, triple what I have just paid for almost the same amount although my centrepieces are flowers in mirrored vases. Flowers vary greatly in price and - I just have blush pink roses, thistles and gyp. Area seems to be a big contributor to price too, my work colleague in London paid £1000+ for a lot less flowers than me, I'm in Scotland and my florist doesn't have a physical shop, she works from a farm so overheads are much lower which then affects the price.

Shop around as much as you can, I had great variations in quotes X

I changed my flowers loads of time. We was paying for the flowers ourselves and trying I stick to £600.

we then changed what we wanted and got quoted £3000. We managed to get the amount down to just over £2000 and it was kindly gifted to us.

i think what you want sounds about right for costs.
