Does it sound iffy? I have no experience with selling a car privately before but have already nearly been taken in by one scam when i was looking at buying.

Sounds hugely iffy to me, for typos & punctuation alone.

Being dense, I can't see how they would get anything out of this? Can anyone see how it would work? (I have only read it quickly.)

It's a ittle more subtle than most as it's not obvious that what it's asking is for sweet-cheeks to give the 300 quid shipping to the agent when they collect the car.

What happens is you deposit the cheque, do everything and then get a call from the bank to tel you that the check has bounced. If it's a cashires check you get a call saying it's been found to be a forgery or has been cancelled by the bank.

Either way you end up minus the car and 300 quid, at best you end up down 300 quid (as they haven't taken the car yet) and a load of hassel.

IIRC, it's a money laundering scam. Can't remember how it works though. As the old addage goes "if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is".

Banker's drafts are notoriously easy to fake. Email back saying you'll do the deal, but you require payment by CHAPS transfer and I'd be surprised if you ever hear from them again. ?

I must have had about 6 of these last time I was selling a car. I may have been sucked in had it not been for the fact the bloke said he was in Spain and wanted it as a present for his wife - I can't believe my 12 year old Golf is really that desirable ?

    Yes it is a scam

Also expect to be phoned up and offered an 'approved list of buyers looking for just your type of car' for £70 (or therabouts).

Why the hords of buyers didn't look in exchange and mart themselves is not explained!

    But tis a scam alas.

It's not a money laundering scam as they never actually put any money in - it's just a scam to get you to give them the 300 quid "shipping fee"
