Dog poo

Iris, 17 December, 2008 at 10:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 24

What's going on? Years ago there was dog poo on the pavements. In recent years there have been fines and poo bins and it seemed socially unacceptable to leave dog poo around. This week Mr I is off work recouperating from his op and also minding Master I who has broken up from school. On monday they went to the nature reserve and Master I stepped in poo, luckily he was wearing wellies. Just had a text from Mr I telling me that the child has managed to get dog poo all over his scooter and his trainers.

Why is dog poo suddenly not being cleared up?

I replied to Mr I's text (which said "Great. Boy's scooter and trainers are covered in dog poo") with "where from?", just recieved a text from him saying "a dog's arse I should think" ?

    ? at dog's arse comment.

Agh! I know! I've been having this very conversation with Mr12DDs this morning as I washed my toddler's shoes AGAIN. It's outside just about every every house between here and the park. The dog bit of the park that is. About 100 - 150 yards between dog poo bins. I want to kick the owners up the arse from here till christmas.

This is one of my real gripes, I watched a woman in town a few weeks back, let her dog do a steaming pile in the road and then made a bit of a show of getting a bag from her bag but didn't actually pick it up, disgusting. I don't understand why people take dogs into town anyway.

Just days before that I'd taken MissSun out in her pushchair and managed to get some on the pushchair wheel, I wiped it with a dry leaf but my finger went through the leaf and I got it in my nail ?

I don't get it though. Are dog owners no longer deterred by the fines or are there packs of wild dogs roaming around the midlands?

I couldn't pick up dog poo, the thought of that warm just done poo in my hand, even if it is between a piece of plastic bag, makes me want to vom. For that reason I won't get a dog.

We have a dog at my parents, and we always pick up the poo!

We walk in the park with a group of people with dogs that we know well.

We are that sick of phoning the council about people not cleaning the poo up that as we walk round we end up picking other peoples up too.

There are a lot of children who use the park to play football and a nursery there, so it should be as clean as an outside park can be!

The council did nothing, so we do it ourselves.

Pleae dont think we are all bad Smiley smile

In the small town where I live I don't think I've ever seen dog poo on the pavements - but go into the oods or the playing field and it's a different story. I don't get it - if you can scoop the poop off the pavements, why can't you do it elsewhere too? We have three dogs and I always clear up after them (my coat pockets are full of plastic bags all the imte, just in case!).

Where I work, near Brum, there are always loads of poo piles on the pavements - it's vile ....

And why do people pick dog poo up, bag it, and then leave the bag hanging on the nearest tree. Lovely.

It's probably just me that does this, but if I walk my dog somewhere that involves doubling back to return to the car, I will pick up her poo and leave it to the side of the path, or hanging on something until I return. She always goes at the start of the walk and I'd rather not walk along with a bag of poo swinging into my hip if possible.

My Dad (61) refuses to pick up dog poo though (he doesn't have a dog). I imagine there are loads of people his age in the UK who own dogs and don't pick up after them.

I hate that certain dog owners are so inconsiderate because it gives all of us a bad name. Whenever I am out with my dog I feel as though I am being eyed, suspiciously, every time she squats, just to make sure I pick it up. Sometimes I want to shout - "It was a wee, I can't pick that up!"

The worst is at our local dog park (off leash) when people don't pick up after their dogs. There's no excuse because they provide bags and bins. Unfortunately, many people seem to think it's ok to let their dog off and then let the rest of us 'baby-sit' while they sit on a bench and read/text/chat on their phone.

I live in a very short street which many people cut through to get to an open space to walk their dogs. in the 50 feet between my house and the end of my road there's often half a dozen shites.

i can't say i've noticed any improvement in recent years, there are notices but they're never enforced.

This drives me mad - I have enough to deal with with all the cat sh!t on our lawn (we don't have a cat or a dog). It does seem to have stopped since the council put letters through everyone's doors asking people to look out for the culprits!

When I lived at home and my parents had a dog we had to pick up after him. It's part of responsible dog ownership. If you don't like it, don't have a dog. Simple.

There's hardly any on the pavement/grass where I live. But it's an absolute nightmare in Paignton. October - March the short walk from my dad's house to the beach is like a dog poo minefield. It's disgusting. I'm often stood on the beach whilst my daughter plays, hands on hips watching the dogs and making sure the poo gets picked up. I'm so sad ?

People moan about dogs being banned on the beach during the summer-if they picked up after them it wouldn't be a problem.

We rarely see any poop on the pavements around here, but the park (just outside my front door) is awash with it. We have 3 dogs and have to collect copious amounts of the stuff when out walking. It's no biggy. I have been known to offer bags to people who walk off after their dog has pooped.

I always want to do the "it was a wee" thing too, Jerseygirl! ?

I can top all these stories. Just outside the gate to my work, a person left some poo outside. ? It wasn't even in the middle of the night or anything - it was dusk! They must have dropped their trousers and just left it there. ? How can that be socially acceptable?????!!!!? Give me dog over human anytime.

We have a dog and always pick up the poo. I remember when my kids were little, if they came in with poo on their shoe it was awful! I wouldnt want anyone having to go throught the stinky bother of cleaning poo from a shoe because of my dog!

My sister watched a neighbour letting her dog poo on the grass outside my sisters house, and startingto walk away without picking it up.

When my sister questioned her, her reply was "it's what makes the grass grow!".

I believe you can actually call a number to report dog owners who consistently leave the dog poo behind.

    Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Human poo is worse!

When I worked in a pub, someone went through the effort of going into the toilet, goning in a cubicle, but then pooing on the floor!

    Disgusting!

I witnessed a man doing a poo in our local park. I was absolutely gobsmacked.

A friend of mine offered to walk my dog for me a while back and said "but of course I won't pick up his poo". WTF? I told him no uncertain terms that he wouldn't be walking him then. What's the issue?

Mind you, saying that, I won't change a nappy. I intend to go through my entire life never having changed one (so far, so good ...)

I must live in a really scuzzy place as dog poo is prolific here. We used to get the same dog pooing on our front garden every day whilst moronic owner stood and watched then walked on without picking up. After this happened a few times I became slightly obsessed with it and started poo watch. I banged the window and asked them to clear it up and got a grunt in return and poo left. It continued so I followed them to find where they left, waited and collected a few days worth of their dog's poo then went round with it one night, emptied one bag through the letterbox, smeared some on the door handle and some more on the door step. I also left a note which said 'Your dog left this on my garden, if you don't wish future deposits to be returned please refrain from letting him poo in my garden or pick it up yourself' I also reported them to local police. Gross I know but this was daily and I was getting fed up of clearing it up so my toddler would walk in it/pick it up

In local park under the slide there was human poo, my friends son actually picked it up, brought it to her and asked what it was as it was the largest log. Someone must have had some huge anus to get that out?

For some utterley mad reason, part of the short walk from our house to the shops is dog poo central. so you walk to the end of our street (200 yards) then turn right past some flats and this stretch of pavement (another 200 yards) is besmeared with the stuff. all the time.

this pavement runs along a main road too, so it's not as if it's some little used ginnel or something. people must be driving/walking past as you let your dog do enormous turds and then walk off leaving them there for people to tread in. and there is a poo bin by the flats too...

plus yesterday i noticed there was a heeeyooooge turd at the edge of my neighbours garden (our lawns end the the pavement.) so some filth bag has let their dog crap on my neighbours grass, and then fecked off.

dirty filthy barstewards...if you want a dog surely you know they're going to poo and it's up to you to pick up? and if you don't like doing that then don't get one.

    <and breathe>

Why on earth not?! My dog always comes into town with me if I'm going.

I can't understand why people have dogs if they're not willing to clean up after them. In the parks near us there is loads of poo left lying around. I will challenge people who don't clean up after their dogs - unfortunately it doesn't always shame them into picking it up ☹️
Having said that - some of the poos I've seen I'm not sure exactly how you *would* pick them up - they are enormous! I mean, gigantic! So much so that you'd easily need two hands ? It's when I see poos like that I'm glad I got a small dog ?

We've got 2 small dogs and one very large one but always always pick up after them. There used to be quite a problem with it in our village, if I'd have had the time I'd have made flags with 'this belongs to....' and the dogs name on it for those whose owners couldn't be bothered ?
