Doggies at weddings :-D!

alexandrawedding@hotmail.co.uk, 12 August, 2014 at 17:33 Posted on Planning 0 22

I would absolutely love my boys to be at the wedding, they are my precious babies and I love them so much (probably more than OH!)
Coby

Rupert

I so want them to be a part of the day but it's really unrealistic as their behaviour is shocking at best :-( they bark and shriek and go toilet in naughty places! Can just imagine one peeing up my dress!

i found a company that will bring them for the photos (looks quite expensive) then take them back but I know they would be horrible and snappy to the person and want me.

OH is getting ready at home with them until the petsitter arrives but I'm getting ready at the venue and photographer is with me so there won't be any photos of them :-(

I'm wondering if there might be other ways I can represent them in the day :-/ our celebrant is going to say a little about them and we are have a photo collage frame as a guest book so I will put a few photos in there.

Im just so sad they won't be able to be there.

Are any of you having your furbabies at the wedding? Or doing something as a little nod towards how special they are on the day? I'd love to hear what your planning xxx

    Aww, they're gorgeous!

Our black lab Izzy will not be there on our day, even though we would have loved to have her there she would hate it! She will be going to a home boarder from next Wednesday until after we get back off honeymoon. 2.5 weeks in total, the longest we've ever left her and it the thing I'm least looking forward to about the wedding.

We have represented her in our day though, we used a photo of her for our save the dates, we encorporated a little paw print into our invitations and orders of service, we are using black lab silhouettes as our place names on the tables and she will take pride of place on top of our cake! Everyone at the wedding knows how much she means to us, she is the first member of our little family and we both love her to bits so nobody there will be surprised at all the little references towards her that we have included in our day!

We aren't allowed our Teddy there but I know he's included in the speeches and my OH is wearing a lapel pin of a dog that looks like Ted. Here's our precious boy:

My Jack Russell is going to be ring bearer (maybe, still to decide). However, because both me and the other half are horsey, people expect us to have horses there. (there will be none haha) I do sometimes feel that it just adds another worry onto your special day, especially if your babies wouldn't be 100% happy. You can always put your dress on again and have pictures done with them after the wedding.

p.s your babies are very very cute

    Hi,

Not sure where you are based but we met these people at a wedding fair who were lovely:

    http://www.groomintails.co.uk/weddingservices.html

I was so close to booking them for our wedding but have decided to drop the pooch at the kennels slightly after the tog has arrived so he can be in a couple of photos.

They're gorgeous! The collage and mentioning of them during the ceremony is a lovely idea?

It seems to be becoming more and more popular to include pets too- we've had a few weddings this year where pets have made an appearance for photos and things. Could it be an option to get the pet sitter to bring them down for a little while?

We're having our two with us for the day, I can't wait!

Oh they're adorable - are they pomeranians? Or maybe klein spitzs (I watch Crufts every year to improve my breed knowledge haha!) My entire wedding has basically been planned so our dog Julius can be there. Like yours he isn't keen on strangers so we've limited guests to family only (most of whom he knows) and have hired a DIY venue rather than a hotel or similar so there aren't too many staff around (there will be the TOG, the chef, the make up lady etc though, so we'll see how that goes!). We're not having a video because I thought I'd spend the whole time worrying what Julius might get caught on film peeing up against!!

In addition to our dog, my in-laws-to-be are bringing there three black labs and my sister in law is bringing her westie, so we'll have five dogs in total. We're all going to be there for 4 days before the actual wedding day, so will see how the dogs behave generally and then make a decision over whether they will be present during the actual ceremony or not, which will hopefully be in the garden. If I think they're going to be too naughty they'll be shut inside for the ceremony but then let out to mingle the rest of the time.

Julius will be wearing a bow tie I made for him and the other dogs have flower hairclips to go on their collars that match our colour scheme.

Our cake topper also features him!

Lovely little, fluffy dogs. Not my thing to have animals in weddings at all, but each to their own. My worry with snappy, barky dogs would be scaring children on the day, then you have screaming kids & barking dogs!

If they are too disruptive to take, could you have pics with the dogs, in your dress on another day? Or photoshop pics of the dogs into some of your wedding pics afterwards?

Aww Teddy and Julias are adorable! Smiley heart

yes their Klein spitz although probably a bit of a let down next to the krufts champions! They refuse to even 'sit' they're so naughty but I've treated them like babies rather than doggies so only myself to blame!

i love all your ideas and the poochies who are getting to be at the wedding it will make your day so special! I'd love them to be able to come even if just for the photos but we're about 40mins away from the venue so without using a proper company I don't think I could :-( and I know Coby would probably try and bite whoever it was or they'd refuse to work with him!

Didn't think about having photos with them after in my dress so that's definitely an idea to think about and representing them on my cake too. Sometimes I wish they could be really well behaved boys who would sit nicely and watch the ceremony then deliver the rings dutifully but not to be with these pair... Xx

I forgot to say we've been doing one-to-one training with a trainer with Julius for a few weeks now in an attempt to make him better behaved! Should probably have started a bit sooner, but he's making progress (a clicker and loads of treats are the key - a shame I won't have anywhere to put them in my dress though so OH might have to have them in his suit pocket!) We've forked out over £200 now, but it'll be a good investment longterm if it means he ends up more sociable as we'll be able to take him with us places or maybe even have people round to the house!

We are desperate to have our rats included in the wedding, but it's not practical to have them there on the day ( they are quite old and would get stressed and the registrar would have a fit!).

we have printed photos of the boys and have attached our vows and the readings to them so they will be there at the ceremony.

What we intend to do as well is put our outfits back on the day after and have some photos with them, doesn't matter if they pee on us then!

and here are our boys, just to emphasise their cute!!

Another crazy rat lady here - we'd love to have our boys involved but it wouldn't go down so well with the venue! The ratty boys do look adorable - we have one of ours on our save the date and I expect we'll have a few more ratty touches about the place! Our ratties are our furbabies!

Hi fellow rat lady! We got a rubber rat stamp and had a rat on all the invites. Also we are having a handfasting ceremony in the evening and we will mention the boys in that where we promise to love and honour each other and provide a happy home for them :-)

Aww loving all the dog/ pet love!!

We adore our little Jack Russell, our tog is off to OHs parents house to take snaps of my OH getting ready including more shots of our JRT in the morning of the wedding (we had him in our pre-wedding shoots, can't wait to get them back!!)

Then with thanks to lovely hitchers here, after initially struggling found someone who could do our cake topper and he will be on there!!

Will miss him so much when we are on honeymoon, am actually jealous my OH gets to spend Friday night with him as OHs parents will be dog sitting for us while we're away!!

Our babas will not be at the ceremony itself but will be staying at our venue (hotel) and will be included in the photos. My younger sister and her partner will also be doing a speech 'in character' as our dogs as a surprise for my other half. They dogs also featured on our invites (see my avatar), are on our order of service and favours, and are our cake toppers. We have a beautiful reading from Marley and Me about what you can learn from a dog. Oh, and instead of our invites coming from our parents, they came from our dogs!

OH keeps saying let's take dog. Her actual names Gemma - she's a 5yr old jack Russell :] but I know she'd play up, bark or jump up people. So the next best thing were doing is having a cake topper with her on :]

Our pet KuneKune can't be at our wedding as we are having to leave her behind in NZ (although to be fair even if we were in the UK it wouldn't be very practical to have her there!)

We have included her by having a little figurine of her sculpted for our cake topper, we are having pig-face cake pops as our favours for the children. Also we are using WedPics to encourage our guests to share their photos of the day with us and we designed little cards 'from Poppy' with her photo on, saying 'I'm so sad I can't come to mummy and Daddys wedding party, please help me to share their special day by uploading your photos to wedpics - Wedding ID - ****' to give to our guests with the order of service.

Oh, and I just bought a giant inflatable game of pass the pigs as a personal alternative to the giant jenga you see more often.

I don't want an overly piggy wedding, but we wanted to remember her on the day.

Our dog is the centre of our world. Life revolves around her, but there was no way on earth she'd be coming to our wedding! She stayed with our usual dog sitter who has her when we are at work so she was totally fine with that. If she'd been closer I'd have asked her to bring her along for a few photos but it wasn't practical. To be totally honest, it was really good to have those few days solely to concentrate on wedding things, without worrying about the dog. She's a good wee thing but would have been either overly excited or bored! To make it up to her we took her on minimoon with us to a doggy friendly cabin, and spent a few days hill walking and eating BBQ food. Even though the thought of bringing your dogs to your wedding is nice, it may not be practical. Maybe you could just take them on a good day out after the wedding and get some pics then with them?!

We had her on our cake topper, and on our sweetie table and she also got a mention in our speeches as 'someone who couldn't be here today!'

Love that there are so many others like us!

Our Ruby is our first baby and everything revolves around her. We did consider having her involved but shes too sociable. I took her on a train once and it took me forever to find a seat because she had to stop and talk to every single person we passed so can imagine what she'd be like trying to get her down the aisle! plus she would totally steal the show ?

It'll be nice to have a day without making sure she's not jumping up at someone who doesn't like dogs and not having dog hair everywhere ?, but we're hoping to have a cake topper with her involved and may try to get her involved in some other way too

I really would like to get my two to the church to have some photos taken after the ceremony outside the church, but not sure if that is going to happen, so might just have some photos with them at my mums on the morning of the wedding. They are going to be on our topper as well Smiley smile

I love my dogs, but they are dogs at the end of the day and I don't beleive they would enjoy a busy and confusing wedding day! Plus, this will be the only day in my life, ever, when I am NOT covered in dog hair!! Yay! ?

That said, here is a little pic ?

We went back home after the ceremony for some pics , I had a dress made from same material as bridesmaids:

And also a grooms cake with OH fab footie team & our dog on it.

Is there any friends not at the wedding that could bring them to you at venue for a couple of pics?

dogs are such huge parts of families, I think it's great when they can be incorporated into your big day.

So nice to see all your furbabies and know there's lots of us out there in love with them!

i spoke to OH about how sad I am they can't come but he says I'm being crazy and they will absolutely be a nightmare on the day! Barking, jumping up and peeing everywhere!

So I'll have to factor them in in other ways, love the idea of OH saying in his speech about them although I'm bullying him into even doing one! I'm tempted to add a little photo of them to our Order of services and then the touches we'd already decided with the celebrant mentioning them and photos on our guest signing frame.

Cant mr help but be sad they won't get to wear little suits and too hats! X
