Doing you own hair/make –up …tips?

Muppet, 5 November, 2013 at 10:08 Posted on Planning 0 5

So as our wedding in the most low key affair ever I shall be doing my hair and makeup myself. Anyone got any great tips/sites I can go to for ideas or tutorials?

I’ve got 6 months to practise, and really, I’m quite clueless, make up for me is normally just eyeliner and mascara!

So tips would be greatly appreciated.

Use good quality make up, and a good primer, but go to the make up desks to try get samples to see which work better with your skin before you buy. There's nothing worse than buying a foundation or powder that doesn't blend well or cakes up on your skin. Illamasqua has a new primer which has had excellent reviews. It's more expensive but if you're going to use it again why not treat yourself, I'm doing my own make up and figure I'll spend probably just as much on products as I would to get someone to do it, but I get to keep all the lovely make up after.

Once you've decided what look you're going for, watch lots of tutorials and practice practice.

for hair, wash your hair a day or 2 (depending how quickly it get greasy) before your wedding that way it will be easier to style and will hold better, and again practice practice, give different styles a test drive to see how long they hold for and which ones you need to fafff less with.

Hope that helps Smiley smile xx

    Ohhh yes pinterest!

I was thinking of treating myself to possibly getting a benefit or someone similar makeover, so they can tell me the right products to buy for my skin, then I'll be confident I'm buying the right stuff!

I went to a Bobbi Brown stand in John Lewis and she did my whole make up for me and gave me instructions and wrote notes as she went. Was brilliant.

Most of the make up stands in department stalls wil do this for free, they then just hope you buy every product that they use. Just buy what you want/need!

There are some useful articles here that might help http://www.experienceanya.com/blog/

I agree with the primer advice - getting a good primer is the key in making sure that your make-up glides on and that it lasts all day and evening. For the eyes I love the Urban Decay eye shadow primer - it keeps the eye make-up locked in place and there are no issues with creasing.

Visiting a make-up counter is a great way to try before you buy - getting good quality make-up is really important to ensure you don't have any reactions to the products, that they look good in person and in professional photo's and, that they last.
