Unfortunately mine and OHs names sound too similar, but otherwise I would! I think it's quite common nowadays actually....

Hi, I really wanted to as I'm not a massive fan of my fiances surname and my current surname actually sounds nice alongside his but he has really objected to it, seems to feel quite strongly about it really, so I'm not going to.

I would love to do this, as I really don't want to get rid of my surname, but our surnames together just don't flow very well, too many 'chs'

As someone else said though, it is very common these days.

Im really considering this.. im in the same situation where i cant decided which option to go for.. im not a big fan of my name with oh's name... s.. s.. so they dont really flow as well as i would like so thinking of keeping my maiden name in there to break it up.

This is something we have deliberated and haven't yet come to a decision. Like one of the other replies, I feel like it would break up my first name and OH's surname as they sound similar, however when I have asked what people think they have generally said 1) It sounds pretentious and 2) What will you call your children or what will your children do when they marry?

I think I am. Our surnames sound fine together (in my opinion) and I have quite an uncommon surname so would like to keep it. He has mentioned jokingly once or twice that he would double-barrell too but I'm not sure if he will when it comes to it. It's a possibility though!

We are! Our daughter was registered with both our surnames, i cant deal with other halfs, and both together go perfectly, he has no problems with it so it was easy to decide Smiley smile x

Our name double barrelled sounds like some sort of pedigree kennel club name so it's a definite no. I'm quite sad about losing my surname, OH doesn't seem to understand that it is like losing my identity lol

My current name is double barrelled, not through my parents joining their names but just because that's been my dads family name since forever. I love my name and feel really sad that I'm going to lose it, I also feel sad that I'm relying on my 2nd cousins to carry on the name (who are unlikely to reproduce) otherwise that'll be the end of the Martin-Cramp history. Smiley sad

I have 4 brothers to carry my family name, otherwise I would have. Would have been ridiculous though since I have 2 middle names x

I love my surname and will be sad to lose it. My OH is already double barrelled and the first male in his family so understandably wants to carry on the name. Otherwise i would have tried to convince him to double barrell mine.

Luckily my surname is a common first name in america apparently so im hoping to convince the OH to use it for our first born!

Ha I really wish I knew what the name was now haha.

I just never considered double barrelling as I think they sound too longwinded.

I was kinda sad about losing my surname though.

I went double-barrelled when I got married and it has caused no major issues. Minor issues have been that a few people have got my name wrong as they have incorrectly assumed that I took hubby's name. And I got some stick at work for having a posh-sounding name! But no big deal really.

If we ever do have children, they will just have hubby's surname, rather than double-barrelled like me.

I wondered whether it would cause a problem with hubby or his family, but I needn't have worried......In fact, his mother got remarried after us and she went double-barrelled too!

Just do whatever suits you. xx

My brother in law to be is getting married at the end of the year and they have talked about a double barrelled last name - my fiancé however is dead against it, and that was talking about his brother not us.

I think it's each to their own, your personal choice.

OH doesn't want to double barrel but my surname is a girls name anyway so I might just use it as a middle name instead.
