Doubting our date

UnionJackLove, 13 January, 2015 at 16:59 Posted on Planning 0 8

Helpppppp!?!?!

The date we originally wanted (16Jan) is now not available, solo..... They have offered us 2 Jan.

I am absolutely fine about this but my OH is worried about people not being around and having no money, has anyone else got married around this date, what would you think if you were invited to a wedding on this date?

Thank you for your comments, positive or negative.

I once went to a wedding on 2nd Jan - it was nice and worked well. However if you have many people with far to travel it might be off putting if they are the types to celebrate NYE?

The other thing to bear in mind is that you would have to do an early RSVP date, ie, before everyone gets wrapped up with planning xmas - it may also be a little stressful as you will be just thinking about your wedding planning over xmas and it may not be the focus for others...just things to take into account. On the plus side, it would be lovely to start the new year as a married couple and you probs won't have too much problem booking your favourite suppliers.

I shot a wedding on 2nd January last year, it was great because all the guests were still in a 'holiday' type mood and it was a nice round up to the Christmas holidays for people.

I wouldn't worry about issues like planning & money, if your guests are told the date well in advance then they can make sure to be well organised for your special day.

I'd rather have 2nd Jan. I photographed a wedding on 3rd Jan this year (ask if you want to see photos)

The hotel still had all their Christmas decorations and lights up. If it had been 2 weeks later I don't think it would have been as nice. Remember, on your wedding day it will be dark around 4pm so having lights so jazz the place up is good!

I think guests are still in festive mode too!

The other thing to bear in mind though is some suppliers, florists in particular often close over Christmas and New Year. Is it the registrar, venue or church that's pushed you to the 2nd. If it's a venue then I would expect them to be able to ensure they can deliver everything for your special day. If it's the registrar or a church then you'd need to check with the potential suppliers really that they can do your day. Some might not being so close to New Year - it's often their rest time....But you will find people who can do it - so don't panic at all.

I think it's fine as long as people have plenty of notice.

What I might check is whether you can get all the suppliers you need for that date. I'm just thinking about the flowers as the Friday before will be a bank holiday. Mind I know nothing about these things... so may not be relevant.

I wouldn't worry, the 2nd of January is fine, most people a are a bit 'short' after christmas, so whether it's the 2nd or the 16th I don't think it will overly matter. The monthly paid people may not get paid till the end of the month anyway so it will only be the weekly paid and those that get paid earlier in the month...

Your guests will all know well in advance when the wedding is and most will make sure they have popped a bit to one side ;-)

Thanks for a all our comments, it was the venue (getting married there too) I think your right as long as there is notice and I will ask around for flowers, I have a florist in mind so will get her opinion.

I have just been bridesmaid for my friend who married on 2nd Jan. they gave plenty of notice, everyone could come and there were people there from Oz, Hong Kong and Dubai. It was a fab end to the Christmas/new year break x

I think it'll work well ( better probably). Most people will be off New Year's Day giving them time to prepare/travel.

i agree with another poster regarding money-you'll be just as poor of not poorer by the 16th!
