Drama- my dress doesnt fit!

Vikster79, 16 April, 2011 at 17:05 Posted on Planning 0 11

Im really upset.I went to my moms to try on my dress and her and my sister laced me in (not sure if done right) and it doesnt fit properly. I am 2 lb heavier than when i bought the dress and am losing weight but im panicking that it wont be enough. So girls here is where i need your advice. Do i go to see a seamstress and see if they can take it out. Leave it as it is,keep losing weight and try again in a month and see, or buy another dress in a larger size? Im seriously stressing and want to cry [:'(]

Firstly, don't panic and get upset - everything will be fine.

You've still got two months before your wedding. My advice would be to stop drinking tea and coffee (they can cause you to retain water), stop eating bread as much for the same reason and carry on with your diet. Exercise too if you're not already.

Maybe your sister didn't lace you in it properly - would 2lbs make that much different.

I'm trying to lose weight for my wedding around the same time as yours, we can offer each other encouragement/have a moan on FB if you want?

Don't panic it may just be that it is not laced up properly.

All kinds of things could be the 2lbs, water retention, time of the month. Try again next week.

2lbs isn't an awful lot, I'm amazed that it's caused your dress to not even do up. I'm in a similar situation but with a zip-up back with buttons... the zip does up, just, but because I'm bigger than when I bought the dress, the buttons don't sit right. I think I need to lose about half a stone, but I'm not panicking yet, just trying to eat healthily.

I know this is probably really bad/unhealthy, but if I get to a month before the wedding and the dress still doesn't fit, I am just gonna do a crash diet, possibly the cabbage soup one!

2lbs really isn't that much so I'm thinking its more to do with the lacing up if it fit you ok in the shop? Are you sure they ordered the right size or have you tried this exact dress on in the shop before or just another sample (samples will prob be stretched)?

Do you have a friend who knows how to lace properly or can you phone up your shop and tell them your concerns and ask if they will lace you in (and show someone how to do it properly) so you can tell for def if it doesn't fit? If it's a lace up is there any way you can wide a wider modesty panel (not sure if this is possible) if that is why it looks like it doesn't fit?

    Big hugs x

Same problem here. Been to the shop to pick up my dress today. The zip won't fasten all the way up by quite a bit. But I have 8 months to go and intend to slim into it. The weird thing is that they measured me in December and said I was the Ronald Joyce standard size 18. Dress 18 arrives and it doesn't fit BUT the woman swore I lost weight since I last saw her which is true because I can get in my size 16 jeans (non-stretch ones!)

They said as a last resort I could have a panel and laces put in at the top but not sure how that would work on a dress that's suppossed to be zipped?? I'll defo slim into it!

Of course, each person is different but don't do anything expensive and rushed just because you're upset at the moment!

    Good luck xxxxx

I was in the same situation I bought my dress from china and intentionally bought it in a smaller size to try and slim down well havent lost much. the lace up back was about 8 - 10 inches apart so really bad I started to stress and went out dress shopping for another dress but didnt like anything as all the dresses were frumpy and horrible being a plus size bride and was only about 4 months till wedding so had to just get something off rail couldnt get a measured dress.

I found this wonderful streamstress who has been able to take out sides and lowered v in back added a small panel and honestly cant tell the dress has been let out and looks far better than any I tried on, so dont worry im sure it can be altered if mine was by so much, but im sure u will lose the weight though just remember taking it out also takes time and seamstress may be fully booked. x

That's nothing Vik, don't worry. I doubt that's going to make a difference, like others say I reckon it's the lacing too. Don't fret my lovely x

    Vik... don't worry!!

I had the same problem, tried on my dress in November and couldn't zip it up.

Combination of lots of things, eating too much, mum not doing up the internal corset properly, being due on and subsequently my boobs being bigger, wrong bra... it all adds up...

But... fast forward 2 months and the wedding stress meant the wweight came off easily, I wasn't due on near the day and turns out I needed to wear the uplift bra to keep the dress up!!!

Please do not worry, 2lbs is nothing and your dress will be fine!

Unless you are an actual midget a gain of 2lbs would not tell in your clothes at all, your weight can fluctuate by that much if you weigh yourself at a different time of day! It sounds more like something that the other girls mentioned, time of month and type of bra and make loads of difference. But if everything else is same bar you 2lb weight gain it surely must be how it was done up, why dont you try it again, and maybe take differen types of underwear, this made a hude diffference in how my dress hung at the top
