Dress code: Business Retro

Mr JK, 11 June, 2009 at 14:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

WTF? ?

I've just been invited to a party with the above dress code, and I haven't the faintest idea what it means. To complicate matters further, it's been organised by Hungarians (I'll be one of the few non-Hungarians there), so God alone knows what "business retro" suggests over there given that they normally delight in doing things as differently from everyone else as possible.

Unfortunately, I can't hide in the background because I'll be up on stage interviewing someone, so does anyone have any suggestions?

A suit? ('80s pinstripe, braces etc perhaps - surely thats verging on fancy dress though?!)

Also makes me think of mod-ish stuff from '50s?

Would love to know what it meant too.

Judging by this, any sepia-toned suit should be fine.../pdfs/JFI195.pdf/ ?

I think you are going to have to ask for clarification. Unless something is lost in translation. Are you sure its not 'Dress code: business' and then RETRO is Hungarian for RSVP?!

I'd say Pinstripe suit type thing, classic City wear - So Retro going back to traditional dress.

That excellent suggestion sent me back to the invitation, and the wording is actually "Dress code: Retro Business attire".

And 'RSVP' appears on another line.

What an odd dress code? No idea I'm afraid!

Now in more pressing news, did you get the job?

You could also say power suits for the ladies and depending on the business something along these lines for the chaps...

Albeit...not quite office work but the vice!
