Dress cost?

PurpleStar, 11 November, 2011 at 16:12 Posted on Planning 0 35

I know this is quite a personal question but I was wondering how much other hitchers paid for their wedding dress?

We don't have a big budget for our wedding and i'm going to look at a few wedding dress shops with one of my BM's [also engaged and getting married the month before me so we're both looking for a dress] next Saturday but i'm worried about how much realistically we are going to need in order to buy a wedding dress...

    Hi,

Mine is just over £600 including storage and alterations, which quite honestly, is less than my mum and I were expecting. When trying on dresses, the cheapest one I tried on was £375 and the most expensive was £2,300! So it really varies! Hope that helps.

    £2,300!! ? wow!

Thank you for your replies, I wasn't sure if people would be happy to disclose how much their dress was costing but it's good to get an idea what sort of money these things cost as it's something i've never had to consider before let alone actually purchase!

The one I tried on and loved was £1,300.

But, we're skint and on a tight budget and I found one almost identical, handmade on ebay, for £96.

There are loads of websites selling cheaper dresses, or why not try Preloved or ebay? I've seen loads on there that are "second hand" but some have never been worn for one reason or another

My budget is around £300 maximum so i'll definately be looking at either second hand dresses or ebay when it comes to purchasing one but it'll still be good to go along and have a look at the different dresses and get a feel for what sort of dress i'm after as right now i've not got a clue!

Mine was 1000 pounds then a further 200 pounds for alterations, usually the shop take half of the dress cost for a deposit then you pay the other half when it comes in which was six months later for me .

Mine was a genuine Maggie Sottero. New it was $1200, but bought it off ebay for £500. Had been worn once, but only for 8hrs & had been dry cleaned and looked absolutely brand new. No one except hitched girls/guys know where I bought it!!!

Mine is a Maggie, i loved it before i tried it on and was having it no matter the cost.

It is supposed to be £1100 but i bought the sample so paid £550, i was so happy to find somewhere that stocked it near me and with the fact that could buy the one in the shop for half price!!

I at first bought a sample dress from ebay for £150 i tried to convince myself that i loved it but to be honest i didn't. Don't get me wrong it was a beautiful dress by allure but not me. I decided i really need to try some dresses on and have now purchased a dress from a local bridal shop for £599 including veil and tiara (special offer on at the time) i have paid 50% and will pay the rest when it Arrives in the shop which is imminent eeek! No alterations needed either as the sample fitted perfectly! Sold the other dress on preloved and the lady came and tried it on and loved it. Def try preloved! Good luck

Mine was £400 including postage. I bought it though ebay. It's a brand new Maggie Sottero Adeliade. The bride had opted to get a different dress.

I'm hoping to spend £300-£400 maximum, there's a place in Walsall (Nr Birmingham) that do loads of display dresses that have never been worn but being ex-display they are loads cheaper. When my sister got married she got her dress from there and it cost her £350 inc dry cleaning and alterations (would have cost about £1000 brand new)

Try looking for warehouses or places that aren't as well known to the public, you may find a bargain Smiley smile

    xx

    £265 Smiley smile

cant flash any more for some reason heres the report- https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/p/263539/2517251.aspx

It came from Joanne Flemming design in Brighton - as it was used for a fashion show before I had it she couldnt sell it new- therfore the bargain price via the wonders of Ebay- £1000's worth of dress for £265. Bargain.

I had a budget of £600, which I knew, having been engaged and dress shoped before, was a small one. I found one I liked in a closing down shop for £99. Bought it and am getting it completely revamped via alterations which will cost £200. Also adding a belt which will be about £70 (so in total £370). I bought a dessy short bridesmaid dress in ivory as a second dress for our intimate registry office ceremony at £160 so there's a little to spare if that needs altered (should be in soon!)

My dress was benjamin roberts and was £950 plus a veil and shoes ect....i think when the dress is the one its the one, and i have cut back on a few other things to enable me to have the dress of my dreams. i stupidly never set a budget as I knew that I would somehow always afford the dress I wanted. i am lucky as the shop i brought from do monthly payments so i started paying in feb of this year and we dont get married for another 8 months so by feb next year it will all be mine! i have paid half from feb to now so the dress is now ordered! so pleased i could pay for it like that as i did not have the money available to even pay half upfront! this way its affordabe! (thats what i tell myself anyway!!!)

Mine was £70 off preloved! I knew that if I spent anymore I would be trying to justify the whole of our wedding day spending £150 per hour to wear a dress!

Mine is a Benjamin Roberts and was £1500 (inc a shrug I bought as well), luckily I didn't need any alterations so saved a bit there. I'm not having a veil and looking at headbands at the moment- think the one I'm going for it £67 and then my shoes were £100 so all in all £1667

The 'normal' dresses I liked were between 650-900 pounds - which though lovly does seem an awful lot to pay for a dress I'monly going to wear once. I've saved a lot by going for a bridesmaids dress which is costing 225 including alterations etc (plus a much wider choice of colour).

Don't know if I just got the most amazing bargain or i'm going to regret this... but i've just won a dress on ebay for £50 including p&p AND a bolero....

I put a cheeky bid on at the starting price and nobody else bid on it! According to the listing the lady bought it for £1500 and it's already been dry cleaned and boxed ready for sending

Will have to wait and see when it arrives now... but might of just pulled off the bargain of my wedding!! haha I'm more than a little bit excited!!

I ordered my dress yesterday and it is costing £689, its a forever yours dress, i tried on loads of different dresses at a range of prices, my parents have paid for my dress and originally i was told the budget would be £500 but they stretched the budget for the dress i fell in love with.

This is the only photos i've got at the moment - i'll definately get a picture up of me in it when it gets here so you can all tell me what you think, i've told my MoH how much it's cost but going to keep it secret from everyone else!! It was listed as a size 8/10 but i'm definately a 10 at the moment, thought it'd give me an incentive to tone up a bit and as it's lace up should be a bit forgiving if i'm not as good as i'd hoped lol
