Dress dates advice please?

Has anyone else been in the same situation..

I ordered my dress back in August for my wedding this May. I have never seen or tried my dress on but from looking at similar styles in store and knowing I wanted sleeves I took the plunge. I paid half towards it to be ordered ASAP. I was told it would be in in Jan 2016.

Jan 2016 quickly came round and I gave them a call as I was excited. They said they don't get deliveries in the new year till after the 15th so to wait until they call. Feb came round and I was starting to look at accessories, shoes, veil, jewellery etc. and soon realised that the things I liked which were from abroad needed to be ordered ASAP or face not getting them due to delivery times etc.

So I called again and they said Mid Feb. And now its March and still nothing. I called on weds and they said they would chase it up and call back either that day or thurs and still nothing? Am I overeating or would you be getting stressed with only 2 and a half months to go.

I have now ordered my accessories and just hope they all go well together but wouldn't have time to change them if I wanted to anyways. This has just put a whole downer on everything. I want to call again but I don't like conflict or to come across as needy. I would go to the shop but its an hour away and I work most of the times they are open so it's just a pain. I have kept aside 1 day of annual leave to try my wedding dress on this month but just feels like it could be next month now.

Does this usually happen?

    Why not try emailing them? Then you can say what you meant without feeling uncomfortable with confrontation. Say it's x weeks later than you were told it would be in, that you need to order accessories, buy shoes, decide on a veil and get alterations done and time is now of the essence. Ask them to contact their supplier and give you a definite date that your dress will be in store. Then take it from there. X

    I don't think you are being unreasonable, I would be worried too, although I'm sure it is probably quite common for delays to happen and I'm sure it's nothing to be worried about. However, don't be afraid to keep calling them, if they said they would call you Wed or Thursday and still haven't called then they are at fault. Even if they didn't have any news they could at least have called you out of courtesy to say theyll keep trying. You have paid 50% of the cost, you deserve to know where it is! Good luck, I hope it comes soon and you are pleased with it. I'm sure the accessories will be fine, you can't go too wrong with that I don't think.

    I wouldn't necessarily be worried, as I think delays are fairly common. However, I think it's more the principle of it - you are paying (I assume!) a lot of money for their services, and they are not doing as they agreed. You are not being unreasonable in the slightest - you have every right to be frustrated and I think they deserve a strongly (but carefully!) worded email, stating the facts, and making clear that you are concerned.

    Forgot to say - if you don't like conduct and don't even feel comfortable writing the email, maybe get a friend to help you with the wording? An email is useful regardless to have it all in writing... just in case!

    I wrote a similar post last week and I get married 2 months after you. I would definitely keep on at them, and explain that you need to see the dress in order to be able to organise your accessories. Also, you will probably need to start having your fittings booked in from April.
