Dress decisions torn!! *FLASH*

BrogstarBride, 14 July, 2012 at 17:44 Posted on Planning 0 21

So i went dress shopping today for the second time and tried on an amazing dress that i love!! I also tried on an amazing dress that i love last week and now im torn so im going back to try the first dress on next saturday and hopefully things will be clearer in my mind!!

Heres dress number one:

http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=J1492&page=0&pageSize=36&keywordText=&keywordType=All

Heres dress number two:

http://www.benjaminroberts.co.uk/2211-p-760.html

The 2 dresses when i compare them are very different but i just felt great in both of them!

The only thing thats worrying me about both dresses are they are Satin and i felt hot on my legs in them, although it was hot today and i was being shoved in and out a million dresses lol. Do you thing you should base your desicion on the fabric of your dress if you actually love the dress that much?

Thankyou muchly fellow hitchers hope your having a fab weekend Smiley smile

xx

I think that if you are torn, neither are "the one".... I knew mine as soon as I put it on, nothing else even came close.

For my first wedding, I was in your situation, I was literally 50/50 between 2 dresses, and tossed a coin in the shop. It was a beautiful gown, but if I think about how I felt then, to how I feel in this dress, there is no comparison whatsoever.

I would say, keep going - keep trying on, try a different shop, a different style.

On the pictures, I prefer dress one (although that's a choice between two lovely dresses), but that doesn't mean much since they'll look different on different people! I think picking something you'll be comfortable in all day is important though. I think being hot will be as much to do with underskirts and how heavy it is as what the top fabric is....?

Keep looking! I know that my dress is my dress I have tried others but still go back to the one I have.

With regards to being hot in satin, have you tried it with a hoop? This keeps the dress away from your legs and also makes it easier to walk, mine is satin, I wasn't worried about being hot just being able to walk and showing all the detail on the dress, it can make a huge difference.

Exactly this. Hooped petticoats are ideal for keeping the dress lining away from your legs and allowing the air to "circulate", for want of a better word lol. The weight of the nets etc in your own dress will provide the shape and make sure the hoop isnt detected.

Personally I love number 1 but if your torn then you still havent found the one! Keep looking....

Dress one is so much more elegant IMO. Simple but stunning. But go with you instinct!

Dress 1 but I'm biased because it's similar to the Maggie dress I wore.

At first I loved both and really couldn't choose between the two. Both stunning. I looked back at the photos again and think I'm swaying towards the first dress a little more. Beautiful!

I had a satin dress but also had a winter wedding! I don't think I felt too hot when indoors in it though.

I think that they are both lovely, I would try them both with your accessories and see which one feels right. On the very good point of HOT LEGS, I used to go to a lot of Navy dances and at one, the ladies room attendant was giving out a foot cooling spray, from the body shop. I works on your legs too!

Agree with the other ladies - if you are having to choose then dont settle on either, keep looking as when you put on 'the one' you will know it (and in my case it was also the only one to make my mum cry!!!!)

Another good trick i learnt was not to look at the price tag - i asked the lady to only bring me dresses below my budget so i wasnt being influenced by the price. It turns out the one we all loved was an ex display and actually the cheapest of all of them ... i probabaly wouldnt have looked at it originally if i'd know it was ex display however it was the perfect flattering fit for me (as i'm rather top heavy Smiley smile and i had to have it

I'll be different and say I prefer number 2. The satin on the first looks cheap to me. That said, my memories of trying on Maggie were that she does excellent corsetry which for me is a winning point

I like them both. (Not very helpful, I know) I looked at the Maggie one myself as it was very smilar to one I found on a Chinese company's website, and I've been warned enough to stay away from those! I thought I knew exactly what I wanted as I'm not very girly so wanted something more simple and elegant, but I went to try some on today and I've found one that is so different to anything I ever expected I would like and is more similar to the style of Benjamin Roberts one. I knew as soon as I tried it on that it's the one I want, but as my mum is paying for it and it's more expensive than I was hoping to have her spend I'm going to look at some more, just in case. When you find YOUR dress you'll know x

Number 1- stunning, elegant, slimming & not as 'fluffly' with all the extra material of No 2.

I'm a little bias because I too had a Maggie. I found her designs very flattering. I got very hot trying on dresses but on the actual day, in summer, I didnt get sweaty at all. My dress had a cotton lining that touched the legs. If yours doesnt, you could have a fairly short, cotton or silk slip underneath if you are worried. If you dont need it, just whip it off on the day.
