long ago, in a far away land, when i was a wedding journo (yeah that long ago! it's been donkeys haha) there was one designer name which DOMINATED the bridal industry and that name was maggie sottero. the maggie label was THE designer for dream dresses. all my then-marrying friends either had a dress by ms or wanted a dress by ms . and before maggie, alfred angelo held quite a high position.

but nowadays there seem to be soooooooooooooooooooooo many more designers and labels around and everyone seems to shop so differently that i wonder is there still a designer name that comes out on top? or is the market place so saturated now that there is no clear cut 'top dog'?

so, who is your dress by? which label? i had benjamin roberts (so already ms and aa are disadvantaged in this thread haha)

no real reason- just thinking back in time and wondering lol

    Mine is a customised dress by Daisy Hithes Bridal, who are an upcycling bridal company.

    My dream dress was a Justin Alexander though.

    When I was magazine and internet browsing I thought I'd end up with a maggie or Alfred sung, when shopped I nearly bought a Justin Alexander signature, then fell in love with and actually bought an Ian Stuart who I'd never heard of!

    I haven't gone dress shopping yet but I really love Ian stuart however I also love maggie sottero so I will be trying some of her dresses on in July and if unsuccessful I will be trying ian stuart as I believe his are higher prices although they are gorgeous!

    I'm no expert (my dress is from Monsoon ?) but would say that the most sought after designers are Jenny Packham, Claire Pettibone, Temperley London, Pronovias, Ritva Westenius, Belle & Bunty, that kind of thing.

    When I was on Hitched OT years ago before everyone left there was a slightly mean-spirited running joke about Maggie Sottero dresses, they were so ubiquitous at that time and had a very recognisable 'look'. And then Kat Slater wore one when she married Alfie...?

    haha foo- it's so true. i remember meeting up with a fellow writer who at the time was editing the 'real weddings' section of a magazine. she looked a little frazzled and i asked her what was wrong and she wailed at me; "they're all the same!!!! all these bloody maggie dresses get into their heads and create these carbon brides! every wedding i've seen today has been same wedding different colour!!!"
