Dress! *flash* [UPDATE pg 2 w/ flashes :)]

venart, 22 March, 2012 at 22:44 Posted on Planning 0 20

I wasn't going to post this, as while I have a dress, it isn't yet THE dress, and this is really just the basis upon which the dream will be made out of lovely lace and tulle. But I just couldn't resist sharing the first concrete step on my dress saga. Excuse how it looks, it has a lace-up back and being as I was on my own I couldn't actually do it up and was holding it up at the sides with my arms. Also- as it's just barely fitting me at my size now, since it has the lace-up back it should be fine for me to lose about 2 dress sizes (if I manage it).

Alright, here it is:

I might even try to use some of the beads in my DIY projects!

Anyways, the dress is now carefully hung up in the closet and OH is under strict orders not to look. Tomorrow I'm off to purchase the lace, and then you shouldn't hear from me regarding dress plans until at LEAST December!!

It looks like everything is coming together. Going to look beautiful I'm sure.

I really like that BHS dress on it's own with the beading - is it good quality?

The dress looks and feels very high quality. The beading looked a little cheap imo; however, my mum said she loved it, so it could just be my personal taste. I'm very happy with the dress, and very impressed with BHS. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a simple and elegant dress without all the bits and bobs you get from designers for 5-10 times the price.

I'm sure it'll look amazing when it all comes together - the shape of the dress looks lovely on you. I'm not sure they'll be anything left of you to marry if you lose 2 dress sizes though!

Aww, you're all so sweet! 2 dress sizes really isn't all that much, and I really would rather be between sizes 12 and 14 instead of the 16/18 I am now! This dress is an 18 and it just barely fits over my bust!

I will definitely keep you updated every step of the way, but I'm going to give myself at least 6 months of gym-going before I start really messing about with it.

It is one of the dresses I'm considering if I do go high street so good to know it's good quality.

I have to say there is no way I would have guessed you were a 16/18 by the pic. You look amazing! Good luck with the weight loss ?

Dress looks lovely already, material looks like it has a nice finish. Can't wait to see the next step.

I don't think I could trust myself having my dress at home so early, I'd just want to wear it all the time!

Update! Picked up the amazing lace after work today, and the shop owner came down in price to £200/m (was £240), and gave me 2m for the price of 1.5, and threw in a free 1/2m of silk tulle!

So, after getting home I laid my dress down on the bed, put the lace over the bodice, and then started on my veil. Everything is coming together so well! The tulle I'm using on the veil will be the same tulle that will go over top of the skirt, so the veil will exactly match the dress. I just need to buy little hair clips to attach to both ends of the veil and it will be set.

Now, my final question: what colour sash should go with this?! The lace has a golden tone overall, but has pink, ivory, and silver thread in it. What should I do?

I got the veil idea from some veils I saw at Frou Frou Bridal in Tunbridge wells. They were so simple and looked great- but basically EXACTLY like this, but using white lace.

Venart, your dress is going to be so stunning, yours is the only dress that makes me wobble on my choice! i can picture a deep red sash with this but maybe because that is what has been on your previous flashes of the dress you're basing this on...the only other colour I can picture personally is a gold?
