*DRESS FLASH*. we finally told everyone 136 days to go.

Jayne E, 23 August, 2015 at 11:35 Posted on Planning 0 37

Hi, I've been around for a couple of months now but never done a proper introduction etc. soooo I'm 58 and my partner is 50. We've been together 10 years and assumed that a wedding was something we would have eventually. After finishing treatment for breast cancer we decided to book my bucket list trip to Lapland and later decided we would elope while there. So 6 January it is. 136 days to go.

The plan was to tell everyone on the day by sending them wedding pictures but I bottled that one and by now trying to make sure I don't let anything out by accident is causing stress so we decided it was time to come clean. We told everyone over the last couple of days and what a weight off my shoulders.

The response has been mixed. A lot of happiness, some why bother, some comments about my age and wedding dresses, some complete disinterest. Siblings being the worst culprits. Well you can't please all of the people all of the time!

We are marrying in the Luvattumaa Ice Gallery with just two witnesses. Friends who were already coming on holiday with us.

Regardless of other people WE are very excited and pleased and are looking forward to it immensely and no I'm not having a reception when back home it's just a personal service for us. I figure that at our age and after the cancer we've earned the right to it Smiley smile.

This is my dress. And the flowers I'm thinking off but in ivory not white. Sorry if they turn out huge!

I wish I had a photo on here to show you it on but I seem to have lost it.

Your dress is gorgeous. Well done for such a positive attitude and for doing what's right for you and your husband to be. It really annoys me that people can make snide remarks about age to people they are supposed to love and support. Love is love, and should always be celebrated. Sounds like you've had a rough time recently and I think your plans sound marvellous.

Found it! This is me in my dress that I love. Even with no make up and short unruly chemo curls.

Totally agree. I'm 28 and feeling jealous too! I'm too short to pull off a dress this shape for one thing. Looking great and really glad things are looking up for you - just keep the focus on you and your other half as you have been and enjoy. You deserve it! xx

Ahh thank you ladies. Confidence restored. No idea what to do with those chemo curls! I think it's going to have to be a case of they are what they are and ignore/embrace them.

I think embrace them, they are a sign of your strength and your determination to get through one of the worse things you could go through.

Perhaps a pretty headband or something if your inclined x

Lol I tried the headbands. A side one flattens the curls on that one side and makes the rest look like I'm having a bad hair day! So I bought one with sparkles in the middle instead and it disappears into the curls never to be seen again.

Did consider a birdcage veil but not tried any yet.

Might just be curls and earrings!

You look flipping fantastic. And in all honestly had you not mentioned the chemo I would just have thought you were one of the lucky women that can pull off short hair, it looks fab!

Oh and yeah, sod everyone else. You've definitely earned the right to do whatever you want!

You look fantastic in that dress! If you're seriously worried about your hair, you could go for a wig, but I honestly don't think you need it. Maybe a sparkly necklace and some drop earrings? Having short hair means that you can afford to really make the most of your jewellery, because it's not going to be hidden.by hair hanging over your shoulders. If you want something in your hair, how about those individual gems that can be woven in?

I did consider a wig for all of 30 seconds but I didn't wear my wig more than twice during chemo. The hair is a big change from a blonde Bob I had before it fell out but at the end of the day I want to look like me and this is now me. it just might take a little while to get used to the new me lol. The comments of what am I going to do with my hair threw me as there isn't much I can do with my hair. I would Like to try on a birdcage veil but think it's likely I will wear nothing on my curls and add some lovely earrings. Thanks for that. X

Gorgeous dress and gorgeous curls- I've always wanted curls and never achieved it! Embrace your hair as it is- it's a symbol of your health and recovery and looks great even if it doesn't feel quite like 'you'! Enjoy every minute of your day and sod everyone else- it's YOUR wedding and will no doubt be magical! Oh, love the bouquet too- elegant, simple, sparkly and stunning

Jayne you look sensational in your dress! It's such a shame that people feel the need to be negative, but screw 'em!

Your hair looks beautiful, embrace the curls, it shows how far you've come. Well done for getting through your treatment x

Jayne you look stunning in your dress.

I know exactly what you mean about siblings being the worst. My brother has never congratulated the h2b and I, and in fact is asking mum a load of questions about the food, bloody FOOD!!!!

Sod the lot of 'em, and enjoy your dream wedding!

Tell me about it. It's not so bad for me in as much as no-one is coming but for you you are wasting an invitation on them when it could go to a friend and paying to feed them!

You look absolutely amazing in that dress and it is an amazing way to celebrate the end of your treatment!! My mum has just finished chemo and her hair has the same curls as yours. I have bought her a fascinator but actually I think she should just leave it bare and embrace it! I think someone said his earlier - it's a sign of how far you have come! X
