Lauradee, 6 August, 2013 at 18:29 Posted on Planning 0 10

Going to look at wedding dresses tomorrow, this will be my 7th shop! Out of all the shops I defiantly have 1 firm favorate so far, and really got my fingers crossed for tomorrow. The only problem is that I haven't had that feeling yet! That "oh my god this is the one" have u guys had that feeling or not? I don't know if I'm asking too much as I want a beautiful train, a interesting back, a little bit of sparkle, a bit of lace. Ahhhh help!

Sounds like a pretty reasonable shopping list for a wedding gown to me. Can you put your finger on what it is about the dresses you've tried on in the shops that isn't quite doing it for you?

I did get that feeling, and I wasn't expecting to. Had been trying on lots of dresses which were all perfectly good and lovely dresses, and then put on one which looked kind of OK on the hanger but which I hadn't really noticed in shop (although I later realised i'd stalked it on the internet and just not recognised it), and was instantly smitten. So much so that I instantly forgot the previous dress (which had been a "i think this is the one" dress) because i KNEW I'd found the one. I've ended up with one much bigger than I thought I'd go for (I was expecting I'd go for relatively slinky all-over lace) but the moment I put it on I did not want to take it off and did a little sulk when they finally made me. So maybe worth trying something a bit different?

Every time I've tried on a dress, I've always thought the train wasn't quite long enough or hadn't got enough sparkle. I think I'm really worried about getting a dress which I look back on and think, I wish I'd gone for something different. Originally I wanted all over lace but I think taffeta looks better, I've been really open minded as I know most people end up with something different, and the fav dress is one I never would have picked in a million years!

If it helps that dress looks stunning on you. I hope you enjoy your shopping today. You should book an appointment to try that other dress on again as well and see if it feels any different this time.

Are you completely adverse to a tea length dress? Here's mine; it has lace AND sparkle.....! ?

I'm at the same stage. I've been to almost every wedding shop close to me and I've seen one I really really like. When I saw it the first time I wasn't too sure as I didn't think it had enough sparkle for me and I didn't have 'that feeling' but trying it on for the second time and dressing it up with a sparkly veil I started thinking it was the one for me.

I've got three more shops I am trying this weekend and then I'm calling it a day as that is literally all of the shops near me (I think about 15 in total!). If they don't have any that give me 'that feeling' then I'm going to stick with the one I preferred out of the rest (and it's the cheapest so far!).

I tried on about 20 dresses before I knew I'd found "The One".

Each appointment I had there was a dress that I really liked and would have been happy wearing.

BUT, as soon as i stepped into my dress I just knew I loved it. All the others I'd tried on were instantly forgotten and I didn't want to take it off. My mum had a tear too which she hadn't with the others.

It can be a long process and you might well find that you end up with something completely different to what you want now. Just keep an open mind and try lots of different styles.
