Take your dress to someone else. Collect it and try someone else. A good seamstress can alter anything.

I would deffo try a couple of other places as I am sure it can be taken in. My oldest sister found out she was 2 mths pregnant when she got married and she had a mega beaded dress and they were able to take it out a bit...I am not an expert in sewing but surely it is easier to take it in.

they may have to take some of the sequins off it and put them back on...that probably why the seamstress isn't happy doing it. Try someone else. Is this the shop's seamstress that said this or one they recommended?? as they might be able to recommend you another one.

Hey lovely. Hope you've taken the girls' advice and gone to see another seamstress. However, i wouldn't panic too much as you've still got ages to go to sort things out. Your weight may also fluctuate between now and the wedding, so don't go to any drastic measure just yet - that's one of the reasons that most dress fittings are much, much closer to the wedding date. But as the girls say, a good seamstress can fix anything. My dress has beaded lace around the middle and had to be taken in by several inches, but my dressmaker had no problem doing it. Good luck! xxx

I was going to say something similar to Jumbly girl. With 4 months to go, your weight could well change again so I wouldn't rush to take it in just yet. I have less than 3 months and my dress isn't even in the shop yet (fricking volcano!) so think you have plenty of time!

Yikes, this post has now made me fret too...you are not alone. Why are weddings so stressful!!!

When I bought my dress (about a month or two ago) the lady ordered a size 12 (UK) although I am a size 10, she said it was because the US sizes are different and she'd rather make sure all areas of the dress fit, I guess because it's easier to take in than let out and the sample 12 fit. When I said that I intended on losing a bit of weight she acknowledged it and said that's ok but don't lose too much. I have since lost about half a stone to be a smaller size 10 quite easily just by cutting back my portions a tiny bit, and the weight has sorta dropped off fairly easily. Ideally I want to be an 8/10 UK, so another 6 pounds as I would feel so much better in the bikini on the honeymoon and technically that is my normal size, I've just put on a bit over the years! What do people think, am I making a problem for myself?! It is only 1 or 2 sizes smaller and I am now depressed that I need to stay the size I am when I feel so much better losing that tiny bit of weight. My dress still hasn't arrived from the US either, am looking at late June/early July apparently for the wedding on August 1st - eeeeek! The dress is: http://www.ribbonsandpearls.co.uk/catalogue/wedding_dresses/ronald_joyce/rjc00019.php

I'm fretting too, I ordered my dress mid March and they ordered me the size bigger than the one I tried on in the shop (UK 14) as the one in the shop didn't zip up. They've ordered me a size 16 however since then I've lost 8lbs and want to lose anoter 5-12lbs, to get down to a comfortable size 12.

Everyone keeps telling me that seamstresses can work wonders but I'm scared that the dress will lose some of it's detail when it's taken in!! x
