Dress Question - Flash

mandunc14, 17 April, 2013 at 16:36 Posted on Planning 0 5

So my big day is still a ways off (451 to be exact lol), and I have yet to try on dresses so I have no idea what type looks the best. However - I have found a dress that would be custom made that I really like. If I try on something similar and I like it, do you think I'm safe ordering this dress? Obviously I still need to figure out if this style works for me before I even go any further.

Also thoughts on the dress? Please be honest. I have yet to try anything on like I said, so if you see something thats an issue with the dress please tell me. The only thing I would change is I may make the belt be not as wide. Also, at least in my mind, my back is quite broad - with a back like this help or make it more noticeable??

I have quite a broad back (for my size/shape) and wore an embroidered sheer-backed dress. I don't think I looked wide Smiley smile My dress dipped very low, with a smoother V than yours, and I personally think this type of design makes backs look longer.

It's a very pretty dress. There are a couple of things though. Firstly, that lace overlay looks course. If it's custom-made, could you ask them to use higher quality lace to give it a softer look (and maybe make it less itchy)? Secondly, the shape doesn't flow well at the back - the flare is very abrupt, leaving the two vertical seams looking pinched. You could ask for this to be smoothened out. I like the wider belts but you'll need an "even" waist/hips to wear them - if you have wide fabric with hourglass figures, they tend to fold over as you move.

    Hi there,

Well for starters we are almost date twins based of the amount of days. I am getting married 5th July 2014, so you must be 12th?

I love this dress, mine is actually not disimmilar apart for the shape of the top. Mine is v neck instead. It is hard to say weather it is not right without seeing a pic of you in it, but if you like it go for it!

When my daughter started dress hunting she had a clear idea what she wanted. When she tried on that particular style, it just didn't suit her. She ended up trying on the 'never in a million years' ones until one style just clicked. The dress is beautiful, but until you try on something similar you won't know if it is the one.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I totally see what you are referring too. I looked at a girl in the dress and it is the same on her. Also thanks for the info re: a broader back. I plan on wearing my hair down which I think? will help, but I will try the style on you mentioned to see what I think

Thanks for the other replies as well. I am already a bit scared because its being custom made and what if something goes wrong. I think a store would be able to cope better. I guess before I start stressing and not knowing, I should go try some dresses on. I have a weight loss goal so once I hit the first 10 lbs gone I will make an appointment.
