Dress Shopping!

meggles24, 7 October, 2009 at 12:06 Posted on Planning 0 9

So that time is approaching where i need to get out there and start shopping for dresses! I've finally got a few friends together and some dates when people are free ...

So whats next? I'm in the central london area so it would be good to do a few shops at once that are kind of closer together- anyone know where to head?

Do you need to book appointments or can you just roll up? Sorry i know it seems like obvious questions but i feel like im a bit alone on this bit as i dont have a mum and my sister has just emigrated! Only just moved down here so girlfrienda are few and far between!

Anyone got fab tips?

x

You dont have to always book appointments but i would reccomend that you do, it just gives you more time and you have the full attention of the people in the shop , i like the idea of getting a few friends together and doing making a day of it but go carefull not to let on to too many people about the chosen dress as it could spoil the suprise for the day!! (unless you want people to know that is) , lots of bridal shops have open evenings/ days where they have special offers etc, i think you usualy have to book for these.

I only visited 2 shops, found my dress in the 1st one, so im probably not the best one to give advice! But the 1st shop I needed to make an appointment, like lorna said if you have an appointment you know you have there full attention then!

I just searched on google for my nearest wedding shop as I didnt know any, I can have a look online for you if you need any help ?

Dress shopping is fun! I would defo call first though and make some appointments, it would be awful if all the shops you go to are to busy to see you!

Wear sensible undies too! The ladies literally put you into the dresses, so make sure your in undies you dont mind flashing and cover the important bits!!

My advice is go by yourself. Once you have found the dress that you really love stop shopping. Then go back a few days later with 1 or 2 people that you trust to be completely honest with you about the dress. If you still love it after that then order it. By doing it this way, you will elimate a huge amount of stress. No arguments from well meaning family, future in-laws or friends. That is what I did and it made the shopping fun instead of stressful. Happy hunting!

    Good luck

I'm a maggie Bride and the dresses are quite expensive, more than what I had budgeted for but my mum and MIL both agreed it was the only one to make me glow!!

Totally worth it if you can afford it!! Lxx

I'm going next week and have booked appointments in London.

I've got Berketex Brides, Designer Bridal Room at House of Fraser and Pronovias at Harrods booked up.

My advice would be wear stomach-holding in style slippery undies! Makes it much easier to slip in and out of dresses and gives you a great figure in the less hold-you-in type ones. (I had not long had a baby when I went...)

Of course if yr a size 8 then no worries...

Oo and if you're not a size 12 or under then I would phone ahead and ask that they actually have dresses in your size for you to try as most only stock size 8-12. And be prepared to be man-handled into them!

And don't be disheartened by whatever size 'fits' you as wedding dress sizes are always a bit smaller than your usual. Try lots of diff styles as they always look totally different on you than on the hanger/in photos. Ask the sales assistant's advice on what might suit you and try everything but don't be afraid to say you don't like it!

It helps to look at websites and get an idea of which designers you like before you go, at least then you'll know the different styles available.

Think that's it! Have fun x
