Dress shopping..

*MM3*, 20 August, 2013 at 20:42 Posted on Planning 0 12

I know this has been asked a million times,
But I think i'm going to drag my Mum dress shopping with me on Saturday *daft girlie scream*
Now, i'm in the process of losing weight and still really unhappy about my body..flabby belly, cellulite bum & legs & a 10lb 3oz child has left me with horrible stretch marks and muffin top. I know when I lose the weight it'll be better as I lost loads before and it did, but now since I greedily gained again..i'm wondering what I can wear to go shopping?
So worried about this and so self conscious, i'd rather be getting changed myself, do they have to come in with me? Although I do have images of me running through the shop with my arms straight above my head stuck in the dress. Can I wear those big bridget jones pants but the ones like shorts that go to bra line, with a strapless bra or something?
Stressing out over such a daft thing but I'm currently shaped like the cow from the cartoon cow & chicken so any tips would be appreciated!

They will have seen it all before. You will likely need help getting in and out of dresses, plus they will want to check you don't put your foot through any. Wear whatever underwear you want.

It will be fine. It might even be fun Smiley winking

    Heya

I totally know how you feel, I felt the same when I went dress shopping for the first time a couple weeks ago. I have stretch marks and wobbly tum after having 2 big babies within a year!! However the girl in the shop was brilliant, she undid the dresses then let me step into the alone, once I was basically in the dress she came into the changing room and did it up etc so it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be.

I wore white bra and pants, just normal ones, I took a strapless bra with me but never used it as I just tucked the straps under the dress when I tried on strapless ones.

Dont stress about it, once you have the first dress on you won't be thinking about what's underneath! I promise Smiley smile xx

Please don't worry about it. I work in my daughters wedding shop and honestly I've seen all shapes and sizes. Wear any kind of underwear you feel happy in, bra straps are easily pulled down if you don't want to wear a strapless one. Just enjoy the experience of trying lovely dresses on and just remember the ladies in the shop will of seen it all before. Hope you have lots of fun, good luck xx

I went to try my dress on again the other week as I wanted to look in to a few bits, I wore skin coloured girl boxers type things.

When I put them on OH's reaction was 'you're not wearing those on our wedding day are you?!!'. Erm, no dear but I'm sure the nice girl in the shop doesn't want to see my pale white bum!

Although I know the girl in the shop couldn't actually care less and will have been more preoccupied with helping me in to the dress it just made me feel better to wear the biggest pants I could find!

Really really dont worry, I'm sure they dont even take any notice of our bodies! They do this every day and see all shapes and sizes. I'm sure if you explain you feel uncomfortable though, they will be completely understanding and let you step into the dresses and come in after to do them up. They all know how much of a special experience this is for us and will want you to feel as comfortable as possible!

Once you put that dress on though, you will honestly forget any worries you had and see just how amazing you look. And the right dress really can make you feel fantastic! Cant wait to hear how you get on xx

    Don't stress it at all!!
It was my biggest fear about dress shopping as after having two kids my tummy is not what it once was!!

I wore a strapless bra and the biggest pair of pants I could find...in talking the kind that come up to your chin (well, just under the bust) and down to your knees! I pre-warned the shop lady in a light hearted way and she was so lovely! She made me feel so at ease and comfortable! And thanks to my magic pants, I even squeezed into a size 8 dress...made my day, that!!

Have a great time and look forward to hearing about your experience!

I was lucky in that the lady in the shop made me feel very comfortable

be wary of control pants, as on the wedding day as difficult to get dress up and control pants done on loo breaks......

Aardvark - Haha, no definitely won't wear a thong i don't wear them anytime anyway lol Smiley laugh

Pugsley - Lol at your OH! Yeah would much rather feel comfortable even though i know they've seen it all before Smiley smile

MissKCB - Yeah you're right, and i'll definitely tell them any concerns..i'm sure they'll sense my nerves anyway haha. Hoping to find the right dress as i'm feeling pretty much horrible in everything i wear right now Smiley smile

ShropshireLass - That lady sounds lovely, hoping i get someone as friendly when i go shopping and not someone who will laugh at my bridget jones undies haha. Definitely going to go for something similar that will hold me in!

CaroM2B - Yeah i'd be wary of huge pants on wedding day just looking for something comfy for the actual shopping trip as i don't want to see them seeing all my flabby bits lol Smiley smile

Thank you all so much for the replies you're all lovely! Will definitely post how i get on & hopefully will be a bit closer to finding the right dress Smiley smile Thanks again!! x
