Dress shopping yesterday - stuck between 2 dresses *with flash*

jenny18/11/11, 16 January, 2011 at 23:58 Posted on Planning 0 4

Went dress shopping yesterday with my MOH, and the shop I went to was great, the staff were really freindly and helpful. They don't do appointments, I must have been there about two hours and think I tried on somewhere between 15-20 dresses (I lost count, lol) and I think they would have been quite happy for me to try on every dress in the shop had I wanted to, they didn't try to rush you or pressure you at all. Anyway, I managed to get it down to a choice bewteen two dresses, and I'm really not sure which to chose, as there were aspects of both dresses which I loved. I've been struggling to find pictures, as I think they're both from old collections.

The first one is an Amanda Wyatt one, as I said, think it must be quite old as I couldn't find it on her website. Managed to find one pic of a model in it:

Which isn't a great pic as you can't really see any of the detail. Also, mine is in a champagne colour. Found 2 pics of it on a real person, which show the right colour and a bit more of the detail:

I can't find a pic of the other one - I forgot to write the number down (thought I'd remember it and didn't - doh!), and I'm pretty sure it's been discontinued. She said it was Ronald Joyce, from what I can remember of the model number and looking on the website, I think it looks like it's from the Victoria Jane for Ronald Joyce collection. The closest thing I can find to it is this:

The one I tried wasn't quite like this, it had spaghetti straps and a slightly straighter neckline, this is the closest I could find though and is generally quite similar in style.

I think I prefer the overall style and fit of the second dress, but I do really like the colour of the first one. I like the detailing on both. I prefer the neckline of the second dress, but not sure if I like the fact it has straps (albeit spaghetti straps), but I'm not sure it would work if the straps were removed IYSWIM? I'm not sure if I'm being slightly swayed as well by the fact that the second dress was almost a perfect fit, whereas the 2nd was too big, so maybe it was a bit harded to imagine how it will look when it has been altered.

Bit of a pointless post as I know I have to make the decision myself, just trying to get some different opinions I guess. I'm going back next weekend to try them both on again to see if I can make a decision then.

I think I also prefer 2. 1 is beautiful, I love the lace detailing and the shape, but for me the simpler style of the second one is what I'd go for. It'll be completely different on you though, do you not have pictures of you in them?

I really sympathize with you, I was in the same predicament and couldn't make up my mind about any dresses I chose - they were all beautiful. It was really stressing me out as I had under 6 months to go until my wedding.

My advise is to go to a few more shops until you find one where you do not have any trouble deciding whether to buy it or not and then you'll feel wonderful Smiley smile

Thanks for the replies - I am tending towards the second dress at the moment, going to go back next week and try them both on again.

I had been thinking maybe I should go to a few more shops - but the ones I've been too already, I must have tried on in the region of 20 dresses so far, and I'm not convinced I'm the sort of person who's going to find one where I think "this is THE ONE!" Outside of work, I tend to wear jeans and trainers mostly, I don't enjoy clothes shopping normally, and certainly don't get excited about, say for instance, getting a new pair of shoes, which makes me think that I'm not going to have that feeling of thinking that there is one particular dress that is going to stand out from all the rest.

So, on the one hand I think maybe I should keep looking, on the other I'm worried that if I do that I could get 4 months down the line, try on however many more dresses and still not be in the same situation, then having to rush to buy something.

Not sure if any of that makes sense, sorry I think I'm just rambling now - I'm so indecisive I think that's part of the problem too, and I'm worried the more I try the worse the indecision would be.

When I started my dress shopping I thought I'd narrowed it down to two dresses. In the end I found one which had the best bits of each!

Personally, I wouldn't advise compromising so much at this stage. Keep looking, you've got loads of time. You know know what suits you so you'll be able to tell the shop staff and they should be able to point you in the direction of the right dress for you.

    Good luck!
