Dress :[ *Updated with flash*

LittleSnowflake, 29 July, 2014 at 16:57 Posted on Planning 0 10

I took the risk of buying my dress off the peg, and I'm wondering now, if that was a mistake. I've looked at my dress twice since buying it and the first time I noticed the veil had missing beads off the hem of it. And just now I thought I'll check the beads I had in my sewing box to see if they matched as I had the intention of repairing the veil myself as the shop doesn't have anymore left (it was closing down) and I've just noticed my dress has 3 bits missing off it and an unfinished overlocked hemline.

Each time I look at my dress I find something wrong with it!! :[ I'm not falling out of love with it, as it really is perfect for me but I just feel a little bit sad.

So sorry to hear this. But don't lose hope - maybe one of the crafty Hitchers on here (by which I mean makes things, not sneaky!) can help with suggestions if you flash the bits that need fixing. Or a seamstress near you if the work is overwhelming you?

I'm off out soon to see if I can find some beads that match so I can repair the veil myself, as for the bits on the dress that's over my head - I have sewing skills but nothing that enables me to fix what I would like fixing.

If you're only just noticing, then maybe the problems are smaller than you think? If you tried the dress on and loved it, then chances are the imperfections aren't noticeable. No one will be inspecting you on your big day. It's difficult to tell with the pictures all being close ups, but don't be too upset, I'm sure you'll look fabulous, whatever happens Smiley smile

I'm in Lincoln, there's only one seamstress I know and have used before and she wasn't that good.

I tend to agree that these are tiny things that you know are there but others are highly unlikely to notice. Loose threads can be tied off. Don't worry too much about replacing missing beads unless they are really obvious. If the missing hem is on the underneath of the dress then no one will see it. Would love to see the whole dress Smiley smile x

ETA - just looked at your other thread - you posted while I was writing lol - it looks lovely and these really are minor blemishes that you can disguise xx

Is the shop not able to sort for you? I bought mine off the peg a few weeks back, off the sale rail, and noticed that some of the embroidery had become undone - they said they'd keep the dress until next year and fix the small issues with it for me... perhaps they can for you too?

I've got to take the dress back next year to get it altered so I might have a word with her then about fixing some of the small issues I have with it. I couldn't leave my dress as she was closing the wedding side down and continuing with her alteration business and relocating.
