Hi guys,
i'm not a big poster on here, but have seen how much help you can all be. I had my first dress fitting two weeks ago, and was a little disappointed. I still love the dress, it's Alexandria by Maggie Sottero, but it just seemed so big.
I ordered it in December, in the size below what i was at the time, so a UK 14 - I was given the measurements to fit into 39, 31, 41 which I thought I was spot on when I went for the fitting. When I tried it on it was really big around the bust - measurement wise there I was 37 so I had expected that a little, but it was honestly gaping. The strange thing was that even with the corset tied as tightly as possible it was still big around the waist and the hips. The seamstress wasn't there, but I was told to go back beginning of August to meet her and that she would be able to take it in in all the right places.
I left the shop feeling a bit deflated, as I'd worked really hard to get to the right measurements, and then was basically told to stop eating healthily and going to the gym to 'stabilise' my shape. My main concern was how the seamstress would manage with all the beading that goes round the dress, and over the seam on the hips, exactly where it will need to be taken in.
Yesterday I went home to see the vicar, and my mum mentioned a charity shop near her that had wedding dresses in it, so out of interest we went along - I tried on two Benjamin Roberts dresses, one of which I did quite like, and they fitted absolutely perfectly. I've checked out the size charts and it looks like BR dresses are an inch smaller in each area, but would this really make so much difference? I'm now wondering if there is some kind of mistake with my original Maggie dress - is it likely, or will I seem like a Bridezilla if I ring the dress shop and make them check the sizing - it hadn't even entered my head on the day!
I still love my dress, but I'm so worried that with it needing to be taken in so much in so many places it will just lose the whole structure of the dress, and wondering if i should get the one I saw yesterday as it fitted like a glove and did look nice.
Any advice, or suggestions would be much appreciated, as I'm starting to panic! Our wedding is 7 weeks today, so can feel the stress rising!
Thanks
H.
