Dress wobbles :(

jem179, 4 September, 2009 at 13:40 Posted on Planning 0 16

OK, this is probably totally stupid. I have a dress. It's lovely (albeit a Chinese knockoff of a Mori Lee dress!!lol) and everytime I look at it I still think it's beautiful. But... I'm no longer 100% sure if it's the right one.

I never did the 'dress shopping' bit as I didn't want to go by myself and couldn't face a whole day with my mum telling me how awful everything looked on me. I have no female friends as I have been working in a very male environment for a long time now!! So I bought a dress off ebay which I knew was my style and would suit me and that I really liked. It's a copy of http://www.morilee.com/DressDetail.aspx?C=1&D=2176&P=1

Now I feel like I really missed out on the shopping experience and really wish that I had just gone by myself....I discussed it with OH yesterday, he's really good about everything as he knows I have noone (other than him and you lot!!!lol) to talk to about the wedding and he suggested we had a look at some dresses on the internet and I could go and try some on if I thought it was worth it! Well then he clicked on this one http://www.ribbonsandpearls.co.uk/catalogue/wedding_dresses/phil_collins/pcb00031.php and I just love it!

Now I'm really not sure what to do...They are both great and I'm wondering whether the wobbles are just cos I feel like I missed out a big part of the experience...What do you think??

TBH, the whole dress shopping thing is very much like marmite, you either have a wonderful time and try on hundreds of dresses...or you do as you have done and find a dress you like and via the simplistic approach and it's all done and dusted..

Unless you can really afford to try on another dress e.g. can your budget stump up for the 2nd dress or are you just going to try it on for the 'feeling'.

You did what you did because you had your reasons, just because you didn't do the whole trying things with lots of girly friends doesn't mean to say it wasn't right - 1st time round I bought my dress off t'interweb, it was the first one I tried and the only one I bought. 2nd time around I went for the whole trying thing (at a wedding show rather than shops) and finally took my mum and BM to 1 actual shop to try and buy my dress.

If you want I'm sure there are some hitchers in your area who would be happy to come along for moral support (it's been done a few times), and tell you their honest opinion.

The Mori Lee design you have chosen is lovely and you obviously fell in love with that style...the other one is lovely too, but doesn't make so much of a statement as your first IYKWIM

If you are anywhere near me I will come! I didnt really do the whole dress shopping thing either, don't have many girly friends, most are just work colleagues. I saw the dress I loved on the internet and went just to try that on, tried 1 other one on, but couldn't see any others I liked (purely becasue deep down I had made my mind up)

If you really are unsure then go and try some more on. I know its not traditional, but you could even take your h2b, I am sure I have read of that before on here!

Dress shopping isn't necessarily that wonderful an experience, as I'm sure loads of brides who have struggled to get that this is it feeling would tell you. You have been really lucky to see one, buy it and it suit you. If you need to go try this other one on to put your mind at rest then go along. It is a lovely dress but very different to the first one and so may not suit you, but perhaps you need to reassure yourself.

Thanks both, I think I will go and have a look. I really didn't want OH to see the dress but I think that was more for the whole bad luck tradition.

The more I think about it, the more I don't know whether it's so much having missed the experience or not being 100% sure about the dress but either way going to look has to help right??

OH has offered to pay for a dress for me if I do change my mind (he's got some money that was being saved for something else and he says I can have some if I need it), which is lovely and saves me worrying on that front!

Tahdah, thanks for your comments, I know what you mean about the two, but I think that may be part of the problem, I'm not really a statement girl lol!! And I'm starting to question my reasoning too!

I like the idea of trying on at shows and I'm actually going to the national wedding show at the NEC so maybe I can try some on there! Anyone else going?? And if I'm worrying about this now can I wait til then to start trying??

Zippy, I'm in Shropshire (is that anywhere near at all??????)

I think that unless you go and try some on you won't be confident that you have the right one. At the end of the day, if you fall in love with another one you can sell the one you already have. I think everyone has dress wobbles though, I have! When I went back to see it again I loved it again though. I think you need to try some on to be sure. I don't live anywhere near you or I'd have loved to come along! I loved dress shopping! Good luck!

Im from West Midlands, thats near isn't it? I'd be happy to come with you. i havent found my dress yet, I havent had a very good experience with dress hunting. I've been to 3 shops now and still haven't found anything I like. I must admit I do find the whole standing there in ur undies while the woman faffs about with the dress quite uncomfortable as Im a shy person and rly not that confident about my body.

I prefer the first dress, and I love how it will co-ordinate with your colour theme. Which colour did u choose?

I'm also going to the NEC show, on the Saturday, think it's the 18th Oct.

    Thanks everyone for your comments!

I do love the dress I have, I'm just not sure it's the right one... Think I may just go and try some on, like you said even just to put my mind at rest.

Laura, yes I posted a pic about a week ago (although not with me in it)! Thanks for remembering it!

Moonpig, it's white with a red trim (as it's a copy the red is brighter than the one in the pic...). West Midlsnds is about an hour to an hour and a half from me!! Whereabouts are you? I'm also going to the show on the Saturday (*checks for booking to make sure it's the Sat..), yes, the 10th!! DO you want to meet up for a bit? I'm going with my sister and MIL2B... If you want to email me, my address is **************@*******.*** ?

IMHO I like the 1st dress but for peice of ind go try some on, you never know, you might enjoy it ?

Another way to look at it to, if it was a copy for the bay of E and you do see something else you like it's not really as if you spent a fortune on it and the fact that your h2b is willing to pay for a second one should take the edge of buying another...at least you will have another 1 to change into fr the evening do?

Thanks debs, I never thought of it like that...2 dresses!!!!? The first one was actually under £100 including the postage so you're right it's not much in the grand scheme of things especially as I won't have to cover all the cost of another if I do change my mind....

I'm definately going to have to go and have a look I think (will have to try not to be totally intimidated by dress shop people......lol) Will have a bit of a look locally and the at the wedding fair at the NEC next month before I do anything, I don't want to rush into anything but will that give me enough time if I do order one?

I think you should maybe go and try some other dresses on just to settle your mind. The dress you've got is lovely but if you go and try some more on then at least you can stop wondering if there is something better out there.

Dress wobbles are prefectly normal - you'll find that most of the girls on here have had them at some point - I know I have but every time I put my dress on I fall in love with it all over again.

As the others have said, if you do find something else you can always sell what you've got just now and it wont be the end of the world.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
