Dress wobbles

Lynseys Designs, 12 March, 2009 at 12:03 Posted on Planning 0 24

So I'm sure you all know what my dress is like and you'll be glad to know I don't have access to flash it again at the moment anyway but I'm now having wobbles over the fact it is sparkly and not as elegant or traditional as some others.

I still love it don't get me wrong but worried I'll regret not having something plainer and more timeless. I can't change it anyway so there is no point whatsoever to this post but just a bit worried that on the day I'll wish I had a different dress. ☹️

I go on the 17th April for my first fitting where I'll hopefully be pinned in where it is too big at the bust and see my sweetheart neckline be pinned in place and I might have lost a few more lbs which would make me feel better but all the excitement has gone now and just stressing.

Doesn't help my h2b said the colour was like baby sick when I told him the colour of cravat that would match! Typical man!

I'm in a similar position in that, although I love my dress, I sort of wish that I'd gone for a mermaid shape rather than an A-line. However, I'm sure that when I'm wearing my dress on the day, and I have my shoes and hair and jewellery and flowers etc, that I'll feel like a million dollars.

I'm sure that if you had chosen something more "plain and timeless" you'd be posting now about how you wish you'd gone for something with a little more individuality, and with a bit of bling and colour.

On the day, I am sure that the very last thing that your H2B will be thinking when he sees you walking down the aisle will be "that dress is the colour of baby sick"...

Lynsey. I love your dress. The detailing on it is beautiful. Men don't have a clue about colour anyway. Just remember the reasons you fell in love with it in the first place.

RIGHT!!!!! Stop looking at everybody elses dresses - just remember how you felt when you put yours on for the first time.

When you try it on again on the 17th you'll be fine! I couldn't even remember what mine looked like between fittings!!!!!

Yeah, typical man indeed! Seriously, the more you think about this, the more you'll stress yourself. You know you love the dress & that's all that matters. You need to find something else to think about & help take your mind off the doubts.

Lyns, I really cant believe you are having a wobble about this! You LOVE sparkle so why would you have anything else?!

Surely you buy your wedding dress based on what you like and the way it makes you feel. Are you sure it's not just h2b's comments that are making you have doubts? As I know if that was my OH I would be but at the end of the day you have chosen it for a reason and you love it, no stoopid man comments should get in the way of that!!

When it comes to your dress fitting you'll be wondering what the hell you were worried about!

    Thanks everyone.

Sarah I know it's just that I'm thinking I love sparkles too much and that it is a bit ott but you are right when I get my fitting I'll be fine.

I tried it on with my bm on Sunday and the hoop really annoyed me (sensitive skin and it annoyed the tops of my legs somehow) and I just couldn't move it the dress at all very so the fact I was really comfortable was horrible. Couldn't bend over in it which was really annoying and then I read MrsLord's report about not being able to sit down easily and I really don't want to be uncomfortable during the meal if I can't sit in it.

Yeah his comments didn't help but also something he said ages ago has finally came to the surface and that is that he hates sparkly dresses!! I know I know he will love whatever I wear and he has told me that but it does play on my mind a bit.

Then when my mum saw me in it she didn't even say 'aw you look lovely' or anything. Was more concentrating on how difficult it was going to be to lace me up on the day and making me feel like such a bad bride for choosing a corset back dress.

All those we things together have finally hit me and this week has just been so sad that I'm finding being happy about the wedding a struggle.

On a positive note I'm seeing Lisa TOMORROW so that will cheer me up so much and I can stop thinking about wedding planning for the weekend.

Thanks everyone I just needed a kick up the bum! xx

I'm the same as you....but the opposite!! ?

I've gone for a very plain, fishtail dress which I loved when i tried it. It's very me as I don't do bling. However I have since thought maybe it's just too plain and maybe this is my one chance to really sparkle so why have I gone for something so ordinary? Am I going to regret it? Will everyone think my dress is just, well nice?

I think you just have to remember why you chose your dress in the firstplace and the way it made you feel and I am sure on the day all those feelings will come flooding back and thoughts of another dress won't even enter your head. You look fab in your dress and it's gorgeous and you will look fantastic on the day. And I bet your H2B won't even remember his comments on the colour when he sees you!

    Stop wobbling!

Lyns, you have adored your dress for about 2 years (ish) without any wobbles (oops I just wrote "wombles") until now just because of a couple of throwaway comments and because its in the run up to the wedding where you are going to panic and question yourself etc. There's no way that you'd be happy in a plain dress. You are known for sparkles (and haribos!!) and if a girl can't wear a blingy dress on her wedding day....

In the run up to my wedding I was really worried that people would think my dress looked like a net curtain as I never wanted a train but 11 months later I still look at the pics and love it and am so so glad I went with my gut instinct in the shop and just went for it. Your gut instinct 2 years ago was this was the perfect dress, it wasn't just the best out of X number, you LOVED it. That won't change, I'm sure you will love it on your wedding day and after, its just pre-wedding nerves. Remember that you haven't seen it laced up properly or with the correct neckline, that will make a huge difference and you will fall in love with it all over again.

As for S saying about the colour like baby sick, he saw a small piece of fabric and has no idea what your dress looks like. Not sure if i ever told you but Simon was looking through bridal mags when I had got my dress and he told me "he hated those ribbon things" referring to sashes and ribbons around the waist.... what did I go and add to my dress - a huge sash! I couldn't care less if he thought he didn't like them, I knew I did and knew that he'd think I look fab on the day. There's no way he was going to think as I walked down the aisle "urrgh I don't like that sash" just like S won't think "oh I remember, that's the babysick colour"!!!

Anyway hitchers, do I have permission to kick Lynsey up the bum tomorrow when she flies down?!?!

    Lisa: Kick away!

Lynsey, couldn't have put it better myself. The dress is gorgeous!! You will look FANTASTIC on the day! Don't wobble! Or even womble?!

And when's the last time your fiance actually saw baby sick?? Cos it's certainly not the colour of your dress!!

And at least one of your so called friends didn't say you looked as though you were wearing a nighty!!

Aaw lynsey! wobbles are natural, but stop!!! RIGHT NOW!! you will look fantastic in your dress, its gorgeous! And if you are a sparkly girl, then a sparkly dress you should have!!

I love sparkles, and I love smooth materials so I got both. But sometimes I look at other ladies dresses and I think...should I have tried on more (rather than just the one)

but every time I think back to how bloody amazing i felt in my dress when I tried it on for the first time, so just remember that and bottle that feeling up.

    Lisa kick her yes haha

I think h2b will actually say when I get to the end of the aisle 'love your baby sick dress' just to make me relax and have a laugh. It is the kind of thing he would do and it would make me giggle. He has a strange sense of humour but he will know I'll be worried about him liking my dress and whilst 'you look lovely' would be better he will no doubt have something funny to say instead.

Thanks girls. You are right if it was plain I'd be worried it was too plain and the best bit of advice is that if I can't wear ott sparkles on my wedding then when can I so thank you.

    xx

Oi missus! your dress is gorgeous! I had a few wobbles what with my black dress and dark colours but on the day I was sooo glad I went with the dress I fell in love with.

I think that having dress wobbles is all par for the course as a lot of B2Bs have them.

Thanks Nat. I've been sitting trying to remember how I felt when I was trying other dresses on and the plainer ones were lovely but just not me and made me look too old and boring so it has been good to remember that day when I felt like I wasn't going to find a dress I liked any more than the first I tried on which is the one I now have.

    xx

Purrfect Gems, your dress is gorgeous and it's clear to everyone that you absolutely adore it. I think dress wobbles really are normal, and from what everyone else has said I really do think that is the right dress for you and that if you did go for something more plain you wouldn't feel right. Also - I don't think your dress is too OTT at all. I think it's actually really elegant, while at the same time unique and different.

Oh, and the baby sick comment - this is like something my OH would say too without thinking! There's no way he's going to be thinking of baby sick when you're sashaying down that aisle looking like a stunner...unless it's to make you laugh of course, as you said. ?

    1) the dress is gorgeous

    2) The H2B is probably colour blind so his "baby sick" is our beautiful pink sparkley number

    3) I had wobbles too, I went back and tried on every variation of dresses in my bridal shop from big frou frou numbers, to lacy one, to fishtails as I felt I was missing something.... I tried my dress on last and it was still the perfect one....

It's all good... enjoy your time with Lisa!

I have had so many wobbles about my dress and I still have time to change it but every time I look at it compared to to others (as in go back onto the site or look at it hanging up in my mums hse) I know that it's the one for me ?

Wobbles are normal cos there is sooo much choice out there, your dress is perfect and you won't regret it on your wedding day ?

    lyns, stop wobbling.

wait to get your sparkly shoes etc on and you'll love everything.

On day of my wedding i had my super sparkly massive tiara that i know my sister hated, a burgundy dress and my crystal mega sparkly bouquet.

I love vulgar sparkly things, its me and what i've always been. I know that a lot of our friends thought I would be like dame edna on my wedding as i spent months blinging things up for it.

My dad cried when i came down stairs to him and said i was like scarlett o'hara! lol

I loved mine and when i look at it all together, i think it was fab. Go for it.

I;m flashing my dress to make you flash yours.

    Hi Queenbee,

Sorry I've been away all weekend visiting Lisaloulou so only just back home. Any excuse to flash!

I just love your all your sparkles. When Lisa and I were watching a wedding programme the girl had a totally plain dress on and I straight away said I didn't like it and then laughed at myself for worrying whether I should have had a plain one! So I've proved to myself I've choosen the right dress and once I get my fitting I will hopefully feel even better.

    Thanks x
