Dress wobbles waahhhrrghhh

curly, 8 December, 2008 at 11:37 Posted on Planning 0 29

Hiya, I'm having dress wobbles. The issue I'm having is that I'm a big girl, with a big old pot belly and I'm really worried that I look like a fat girl trying to be a skinny! I want to lose some weight before my wedding. I ordered it at the beginning of Nov and since then I've lost about 7 - 10 pounds. But I know I won't lose loads because I basically don't want to be miserable running up to the wedding and going hungry.

Can I please have honest opinions on me in the dress - the picture is poor quality because it was taken from a mobile phone. I've also put a link on to the dress -as you can see its on a skinny minny model which I don't think is helping me. I am going for my measurements to be taken on 20th December and I''ll be mortified if my measurements are the same as at the beginning of Nov.

I really would like honest answers, it is definately my favourite dress but I don't know whether the style suits me now - honest opinions, even if they are negative are appreciated as I have time to do something about it. I get married in June, the sample dress as been bought so I can't go and try it on again and don't think mine will come in for a while now.

If my OH was around he'd tell me to 'cheer up charlie, give us a smile' - I'm feeling a right whinge today. Also the bolero won't fasten on my picture cos it was too small. so it doesn't look quite right.

oh god i've just posted my picture next to the dark-haired beautiful model and it hasn't helped!!

EDITED: I've taken me off now! Thanks for the replies

I am going to be perfectly honest and say what the hell are you worrying about, you look absolutly sensational, i personally think that you look better that the stick model.

that dress looks absolutly stunning on you. you look fab.

    Honest Ali here.

That style really needs curves to look right. I think it gives you a lovely hourglass shape. Personally I prefer that style on you to say a strapless a-line number. I think that the dress enhances your shape and looks great on you.

Plus, if that's the best photo you have, it's never going to look as good as the airbrushed craziness next to you!

I think it looks great, so stop wobbling! (and you really don't look big to me - it's just a matchstick would look big compared to that woman!)

I don't think you have anything to worry about at all, your curves make it look sensational!

Stop looking at the pic of the sample dress if it's making you paranoid (although I don't think you have anything to worry about.) My sample dress was way too small and I had boobage coming out of my armpits and hideous back fat and it was soooo tight across my tummy I couldn't breathe so I was so worried about my dress coming in, but when it did, it was the right size and looked beautiful.

I don't know what size the sample was, or what size my dress is, or what my measurements are. I told the lady in the shop I wasn't bothered and just to order the one that would fit me best.

    Don't worry! x

I think you look stunning! Well done on your weightloss but ifs thats you in november then you didn't need too!! When you are slipping on that dress when it fits you perfectly, you'll feel like the princess that you look like to us! (Just think what your h2b will think!!) The dress is beautiful, but you make it better - it kind of looks like it would fall off the model!!! - the style really suits you! Hope you feel better after your measurements.

Honestly?? .... I think you look lovely. I think its a really good choice. I really do think you are being hard on yourself but I know other people always "see" people different to how they feel but you need to believe us!

I think you look lovely in it and have absolutely nothing to worry about. If you really want to lose some weight there's no harm in that, but don't feel like you need to. You certainly don't. If you want to, that's a different story and you can do it without making yourself miserable. I lost 4 stones 2lbs in 29 weeks for my wedding and because the diet I was on is a good one, I didn't have to make myself miserable.

Oh, Wobble Schmobble ....!! I think you've got fab curves for a dress like that! But ultimately its how you feel in the dress. If you love it and feel amazing then thats what matters.

Ignore the stick insect glossy mag photos - they're unrealistic for a lot of the population.

So yay to curvy brides, and boooooo to stick insect models who've been airbrushed to within an inch of their lives!

    You look great!

IMO bigger girls look bigger in layer after layer of dress. Slimmer dresses are more flattering than you realise.

Thank you for your kind comments - I'm having one of those days. I've not eaten well this weekend, I've not been to the gym for a while and I feel like a big fat loser! I can't imagine myself in a big dress but thats what a lot of shops were trying to get me to try on - which makes me wonder why?

I'm going to get my arse in gear, I'm sat here feeling blue - and I shouldn't after all your lovely comments. I will try and loose weight, but I have a bad bad relationship with food - I can go from cramming my mouth with food to starving myself and having fainting fits - I've grown up a lot since those days but it's made me wary. So the plan is to loose weight slowly but surely - it just frightens me that I won't get there and I won't feel comfortable on the day.

Anyway, thank you for your comments. They have helped me realise that it is not the dress actually that I'm worried about - I know I love it. And it does suit me better than other dresses, I just need to cheer myself up and crack a smile lol.

I normally avoid these threads because I have to bite my tongue a bit if a dress doesn't look right, but honestly? I think you really really suit that dress. It's beautiful and you definitely have the figure for it ?

I don't think you have anything to worry about, keep eating healthily and don't worry about shifting a few pounds because you really will look stunning ?

First thought I had when I saw the picture of you in the dress was that you looked a bit like Charlotte Church. I love how she wears fitted dresses and looks so feminine and sexy. My OH has a total thing for her.

I think you look fabulous in the dress. You have a proper hourglass figure and that's a good thing! And remember, your dress will fit you and flatter you even more than the sample, so no more worrying about the bolero okay?

PS: If you're really feeling self concious about your belly, invest in some Spanx. I hate hate hate my belly more than anything but love the shape my Spanx gives me. Really boosts my self confidence on days when I feel huge.

I think you look lovely in that dress, it's a similar style to the one I'm having and as my mum says, to pull off a dress like that you need curves. You can really see your waist in the dress and the style and shapes really suits you.

No NORMAL woman looks like that model, so don't compare yourself to her, she probly hasn't eaten since she was 13!

As for the dress, I think you look fab! Its a beautiful dress, and once it's been altered to fit your shape you'll see what we all can.

Don't try and loose weight anyway, your future hubby loves you for who you are and I'm sure he'd still marry you if you turned up in a used bin bag!

    xx

The bin bags our council provides are a see-through bluey colour - that would give the guests a bit of a shocker - the bride in a see through bin-bag outfit!

Thank you everyone for being lovely - it really helps when you feel a bit of a misery. OH will be home soon and we are off to the gym. I'm about to put some chestnuts in the oven though first.

I think see-through blue sounds lovely! You could have some really nice undies underneath and make yourself a veil with an old string vest!

I think this could be the wedding outfit to end all wedding outfits!

Our bin bags are the same, I wouldn't wish that on my guests! Perhaps I'll stick to the more traditional dress x

Well if I thought I needed to loose weight before then I'll definately have to for my new see-through outfit. Saying that it will be a way to cut the budget - brides dress provided free of charge by council, 2nd hand string vest 4p from charity shop. lol

Ok I'll be honest. The picture, as you said, isnt great. Your not really smiling and dont look particularly happy and yet despite that you look lovely!! I think the dress really suits you. You dont look like you have a big old pot belly (your words!). You look great and just imagine how fab you'll look once your dolled up, accessorised up and a happy bunny!

You look really pretty-the dress will be just gorgeous on you. Don`t stress about losing weight, without wanting to sound cheesy, you are what you are and there is no point putting yourself under huge amounts of pressure to lose weight (trust me I`ve been there!)-wedding planning is quite stressful enough! You look lovely as you are.

I love the dress and it looks beautiful on you! the model is reallllly thin so don't even think about comparing yourself to her. I think it looks great and you should be more confident about it!

Firstly, I think you need to stop looking at the designer's picture of the dress. You need to stop comparing yourself to the model. It's completely unnecessary to do it, and my guess is that it's skewing your view of yourself in the dress.

Secondly, you look great. You do not look big, and it's giving you a fantastic figure. You absolutely do not look like a big girl trying to wear a skinny girl's dress. If you're worried about the fact that the dress is fishtail shaped, then don't - your figure looks great in this dress.

Thanks again everyone, just got back from the gym and I've been doing my belly exercises!! Starstruck - I am currently 13stone 7 I used to weigh 9 stone 4! So I am big - I'm a size 16 at the moment but I always weigh lots. When I was 9 stone 4 I was a tiny size 8 - I was also hungry all the time and went to the gym every single day so I'm not saying it was a good thing. So I'm trying to find a balance. I could certainly do with loosing a few stone though.

But regardless of all that, thanks everyone for cheering me up. Also can't believe I've told you all how much I weigh - I don't tell anyone ever! I'm going to have to kill you all now! lol

I know, it's just I am at the bigger end of my weight range at the moment - I mean I would chop off my left leg to weigh 10stone 7 - in fact maybe that would do it!lol. If I just drop 1 dress size it will make a difference to me, because before I lost the 10pounds it was the biggest I'd been for a long time. It's all relative I guess. Thanks x
