Dresses advice esp lace or chiffon and cheap designers!

Boozle, 15 August, 2012 at 19:28 Posted on Planning 0 10

Can anyone tell me if you have a lace dress how heavy it is please? I am getting married abroad and considering chiffon or lace but want to have a look online before I go and try some on.

Also, does anyone have any recomendations for cheaper dress designers such as Romantica of Devon. I really don't want to pay a fortune and am prepared to look on preloved for the right dress

Thank you in advance

I have a full lace, empire line dress and it is quite heavy. I've got a bit of a train on it & when the lady in the shop bustled it up I could really feel it!

To be honest you might just be best going to try some on. It really is the best way to find out what's going to work for you. Also, if you're going to get married abroad you need to consider how much the dress will crease in transit & how easy it will be to get pressed. X

Yes you're right, I just want to get an idea of what I want really and narrow it down. I know I want a fitted style as opposed to a big dress really

I've got lace and yes, it is pretty heavy. Kinda wished I'd considered that although I do LOVE lace and not sure I'd want something else...

Lace dresses tend to be quite heavy. There are some that aren't though - Cymbelline do some amazing dresses in a very light lace but they're certainly not in the cheaper price range.

I'm getting married in Italy and have bought a chiffon Maggie Sottero dress (going for the final fitting today eek!) which is lovely and light. The tailor has taken off the lining of the train too to make it even lighter.

I would go and try stuff on to be honest, as you won't really have an idea for yourself until you do. I was really shocked at how heavy some of the dresses can be.

I tried on some Romantica of Devon dresses and they were lovely. Not as structured as the likes of Pronovias or Maggie, but it sounds like you''re after something a little more floaty anyway. I looked at a couple which were satin or taffeta body with a slight chiffon overlay. Quite straight but really pretty. Go and have a try. If you're anywhere near Guildford, there's a shop on the outskirts called Wedding Frox which do loads of cheaper designers and the lady there is really friendly. Look them up on Google!
