Dresses Update

Carol1, 15 December, 2009 at 17:49 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi everyone,

I've just had a whirlwind week trying on wedding dresses and now I'm about to commit and buy my overall favourite. I'm sure it's perfect, but the more I looked the more beautiful dresses I saw. In brief this is what happened:

Went to first shop and tried on the first two dresses to complete silence from my mum! She didn't want to say anything negative so she said nothing at all - I think the assistant was taken aback. This is one of the dresses I tried on which is over the top but fantastic:

I have to admit it looked good, but probably not totally flattering on me. Then dress number 3 was my perfect dress which I hadn't chosen but the assistant picked out. Even though it is simple, it was so flattering on me (I tried it on in ivory). My mum thought it was amazing also:

Then I tried on about 15 other dresses and styles, but nothing compared to that one above. I wanted to buy it, but to be on the safe side I went looking in more shops on Sunday with my friend, where I found this dress by Maggie Sottero:

It is a fantastic dress without a doubt, but I think I prefer the one above. I have just phoned the shop and paid £100 as a deposit on it, and I am going back on Saturday to try it on again.

I hope I'm not being too rash, because nobody has seen me in both the dresses, and I can't find a shop which stocks them both. I suppose I just have to go with my instinct. I had to pay £100 today, as if I ordered it by today I got £150 to spend in store on accessories. I hope I've done the right thing!!!

Love the middle one - so different.

I wondered what "the one" feeling was actually like. For me, I did't get a "struck by a thunderbolt" / "OMG" moment and tears. The shop assistant asked me if i wanted to tkae the dress off and I said "NO". Since then, I can't quite remember it exactly, it's more how I remember feeling and I get all smiley about it.

Only you know truely which one is for you. Which one do you think about more? Which one brings a smile across your face? Go with that one ?

Lovely dress that you've chosen. Its my fave out of the 3 links that you posted. I think you just kinda know your dress when you find it - I did cry (which suprised me) but what made me sure more was that I kept wanting to try it on again. I probably had it on at least 5 times on the day that I bought it but that day I tried about 24 dresses on (in 2 different shops).

I say - gorgeous dress, go try it on again on Saturday and it will confirm 100% for you that its the right one

Lovely dresses!! I love the Maggie one!! But only because I'm going to be a Maggie Bride!! lol

I knew Instantly it would be my dress, but ordered in the one I loved the pic of just to be sure. With the dress I'm picking I felt all Happy and almost cried, then when I stepped out of the changing room my mum cried and I just knew It was the one I wanted for my wedding day!!

I think all of those dresses are stunning and you will look stunning in the one you've chosen!!

    Lxx

Thanks guys for your positive comments! I felt excited all last night thinking about the dress

Well how I realised this dress was the one http://www.ianstuart-bride.com/docs/5.param_dress_unforgettable.html

As I hadn't picked the dress out, I didn't know which one I was trying on, and I stood facing the mirror as the assistant fitted me into it. And I did get a feeling of 'magic' as she zipped me up, then I went out the changing room and my mum was overwhelmed. I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror as it was so flattering. Then when I went back into the changing room I had a wistful sigh, as I knew this would be the dress I would buy. Then at the end of the session I tried it on again, after no other dress had come close, and the assistant put a veil on me, and I tried on my mum's pearls which she said she would lend me for the wedding as something borrowed. And then my mum had a small tear in her eyes. It was quite a special day.

I know what Teehee means about wanting to get married again, there are so many wonderful dresses, it's a shame we can only wear one once!

I love most of the Ian Stuart dresses, but that one you've chosen is great (in fact, may have to see if the bridal shop has it in to try it on myself!). I'm sure you'll look fantastic on the day!
