Dresses: What you wanted vs what you bought!

I must confess, I've stolen the idea for this thread off another wedding forum ? but thought it was a good idea as so many of us end up with such a different wedding dress to the style we thought we'd go for and it's interesting to see the difference between the dresses we end up with and the ones...

I must confess, I've stolen the idea for this thread off another wedding forum ? but thought it was a good idea as so many of us end up with such a different wedding dress to the style we thought we'd go for and it's interesting to see the difference between the dresses we end up with and the ones we originally wanted.

So for me - I originally wanted a dress with straps, something quite subtle and elegant, classy and sophisticated and absolutely not princessy at all. I'd fallen in love with this sort of style, which is Caleigha by Maggie Sottero:

What I've actually ended up ordering is this - a very princessy dress by White Rose:

And why not - a pic of me in the sample too, just for luck! ?

I didn't even want to try mine on at first, it was so not the style I wanted!

So show me the dress you thought you wanted, vs. the dress you ended up choosing!

(Edited to add the flickr link in for the sample pic - for some reason it's not letting me copy and paste the pic as usual...)

I originally wanted a lace dress, completely plain with a small train. I've gone for the attached, it's satin, loads of detail and completely the opposite of what I thought I'd buy. In fact it was the lady in the shop who suggested I try it on. It was the cheapest one I tried on too, out of about 100 dresses! ?

    I wanted this:

    (jenny packham papillon)

and nearly did. i would have stretched to what it cost, but the alterations on top of that would have been horrendous - as you can see this model is a lovely leggy lady. i am not. the beautiful beaded bits would have dragged and got ruined soooo easily. i still dream about this dress.

    i got this instead:

it's isola by augusta jones. my seamstress added the sleeves on for me.

I always thought I would a 'traditional' dress, quite big but with a straightish skirt. But my dress is totally different, with frills and tucks everywhere. The only thing thats the same is that its a corset and strapless.

I always thought i would have pink BM's as I am pink mad, but for some strange reason I've gone for midnight blue, even I don't know what made me decide not to have pink!

I always wanted a dress such as:

    • plain
    • simple
    • elegant
    • not strapless
    • no detail
    • white
    • no train
    • something i can wear again

I had this sort of simple design in my head:

This was what I ended up with. I saw it on the rack at a wedding showroom and loved it!!

    It was

    • intricate
    • detailed
    • elegant
    • strapless
    • immense detailing on it
    • light gold with ivory lace
    • a long train
    • definitely not something i can wear again!

I loved it though! Just wish I could wear it again now.

Bluewater- I love love love Papillion after seeing it on this bride:

but its way out of budget and probably not especially suitable for my winter wedding. I've compromised though and bought the bag she is holding and madea very similar bracelet!
