Drink for the Ladies?

Bells12, 4 April, 2014 at 19:51 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi All,

My other half is wanting to provide a barrel of ale for the guests at our wedding. His thoughts are to put it out when the evening guests arrive and once its gone, its gone. There should be enough for at least 2 pints per male guest. There is also a bar for people to buy drinks at. My question was what about the ladies? i'm struggling to think of an alternative for the non beer drinkers amongst us that comes in a similar way? I was thinking maybe a fruity cider? but this comes in a cardboard box, not lovely oak barrel! Would you as a female guest drink ale? or would you prefer something else? and if so what? Any ideas greatly appreciated, I dont see why there should be a free drink just for the men ?

    Wine!

I'd drink it out a sweaty sock so a barrel should be fine ?

I would drink ale. Or pretty much anything other Jack Daniels!

I like blond ales Smiley smile Either that or you could go on a different tangent and serve cocktails?

I'm partial to a good ale myself. Chances are there will be ladies who like it and there will be men who don't. Like the idea of cocktails ... or depending on when you're getting married maybe Pimms / mulled wine?

    Cider I can't stand.

Most of my female friends would match the fellas pint for pint, haha. If it were solely up to me I'd like a table of french martinis...

I wouldn't drink ale but I wouldn't be fussed at not getting a drink.

however if you do want to serve something...how about a pink lemonade punch or similar? I love those glass drink dispensers you get in john lewis (usually for pimms). They look so cute!

Thanks guys, it's reassuring to know you wouldn't be offended by just ale if it's what we decide, any more tips still greatly appreciated x

Yeah, I don't like ale. But it's not necessarily a gender thing. I'm not a big drinker generally - I do like a nice whisky cocktail, like an old fashioned. I wouldn't be offended if ale was the only choice, though. I'd be fine just drinking table water, I've done it before.

I don't like ale, and tbh if it was the only free drink at a wedding I'd be a bit miffed, as it would show that the hosts obviously knew that not all their guests would like it, but didn't care enough to do anything different. I would never say anything to them, but it would colour my experience of the day.

Wine/Pimms/cocktails would all be decent alternatives. Having some kind of free soft drink would also be nice for those who can't/don't drink.

Hi, all the day guests are getting a welcome drink, cava for the toast and can then pick 2 drinks from a menu that includes wine, beer and soft drinks. The cask of ale is just being put out in the evening. Apart from that people will have to buy their own drinks at the bar. Would you still be miffed at not having a ladies option in the evening?

Short answer yes. I would offer a white wine too as an alternative. We're putting a cask of ale on at our after wedding party and providing prosecco too. Each invitee will get a ticket to exchange for the drink of their choice.

    Ale for the gents?

Well I would of course suggest babycham for the ladies.

If I'd already had a few drinks then I'd mind less, I think. Might still think it was odd to provide one specific type of free drink knowing that plenty of people won't like it, but I'd be less grumpy about it.

On pinterest there are loads of pics of cocktails served in large glass containers with tap spouts that look great with fruit, mint etc in. I shall be doing Pimms and Mojitos and a non alcaholic fruit punch yum yum
