Drinks for reception and wedding breakfast

Mrsmalpass, 18 May, 2015 at 10:17 Posted on Planning 0 7

Right im having abit of a flap about drinks of all things!

Our venue has a no corkage free (great!!) we get married at 13:30 and the venue has a bar, we have paid for this to be open from 14:00.

The flap im having is that we want to supply free drinks for the reception and some drinks on the tables for the wedding breakfast. I feel weird about expecting our guests to buy drinks in the day time, we chose to open the bar early incase people didnt like the drinks we supply or men for example wanting different beers.

Anyway, im stuck on what to provide and how much to provide i dont want to run out!

We have 60 adult guests during the day time

i have thought 10 bottles of prosecco for toasts

15 bottles of white wine

10 bottles of red

15 bottles of rose

two large bottles of pimms

Does this sound enough or will i need more? The wedding breakfast is at 16:30

im really stuck on what to get the men? Or should i just leave it at wine? I have been to three weddings and any free drinks offered where wine....

Help please!

    Hi

i think just stick with the wine etc. As your bar will be open and all paid for any men ( or woman) not drinking wine will be able to get an alternative from the bar if needs be.

we are supplying the wine for tables and also putting money behind the bar. We can decide when the bar tab starts and we're wondering when. Your idea for it being all paid for the day guests sounds ideal so thinks that's the way we will go. we have corkage to pay (boo!) but still cheaper than their drinks packages offered by the venue. We bought all our wine when on offer at 1/2 price and 25% off so we got a bargain

    hope this helps x

It does thank you, we havent put any money behind the bar so guests would have to buy drinks if they wish we are on a tight budget now so dont think we can affor to put money behind the bar. I hope the guests dont think bad of us

I think the standard is toast drink and wine for the table. Usually half a bottle per person. ALL the weddings I have been to have been that and then buy your own if you want an alternative. It is more than enough, otherwise people end up wasted!

As a photographer I go to lots of weddings! What you have already planned is very generous so don't worry about it. The men can buy beers at the bar if they want.

We have about the same number of guests and we were planning 5 bottles of white and 5 red for the tables, 10 bottles of prosecco for the receptions drinks and then 20 bottles for speeches. We have our evening guests joining us for speeches so that's why we need more in the evening. I like the idea of rose wine on the tables. I didn't know that was the 'done thing' but I went to a wedding last week and there was rose. I might get less red and then get a few bottles of rose instead!xx

It's nice to have a glass of something for the drinks reception after the ceremony - usually has been either bubbly or Pimm's, plus a soft option, at most weddings I've been to. Then wine on the table during, and another glass of fizz for toasts. If you can't stretch to reception drinks, then at least make sure there's plenty of water available.

    Hi

We have similar numbers and timings and we're having the following:-

Pimms or Orange Juice on arrival

Red / White / Rose Wine (jugs of Squash for kids) and jugs water on each table

    Pink Cava for the toast

The bar will be open throughout if anyone wants to buy anything different.

Unless you know that lots of guests drink rose, I'd either reduce the number, or not have as an option at all. (never seen it as an option at weddings, but maybe its the done thing now?) With the money saved, you could put this behind the bar, but limit it to say 2-3 types of basic beer. if guests want spirits/speciality beers, they pay themselves.

Another option would be once of those mini-keg things (if allowed) or a few cartons of beer. Lidl, asda, tescos often have specials on.
