DSLR camera for work - advice pls

GMT, 24 March, 2009 at 12:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

I've been asked to purchase a camera for our team to use when out and about (well, for me really as I'm the one who's keen). Can spend around £500. The Canon EOS 450D looks half decent but what would your advice be? I need to make the purchase asap in order to get it into this year's budget!

Ta for any suggestions ....

Sorry, edited to add recommendations of places to purchase would also be much appreciated.

What will the camera mainly be used for taking photos of? The reason I ask is that the team I work in have a DSLR but we use it mainly to take photos in supermarkets of shelves and products and there are a number of problems with it vs having a compact: it's really obvious therefore impossible t take photos "undercover", it's slower to change the settings e.g. remove flash, people are always asking how to use it.

I have a Nikon D40X (same as D60) for personal use and love it. The Nikon and Canon EOS reviews I read at the time found it hard to choose between them so both are good.

    I have a Nikon D60 and it's excellent. I'd definitley recommend it.

What do you need to photograph? If you dont need changeable lenses maybe a bridge camera would be better sort of inbetween a p&s and a dslr (they are smaller so easier to carry about)

I already have a bridge camera and am keen to move up a notch, and my very nice manager has agreed that this can happen. I need a versatile piece of kit that will allow me to take people shots, scenery, plant and equipment. Nothing 'undercover' as mentioned by an earlier poster. Indoor and outdoor shots, but more out than in.

We've got a canon 30d and I really like it, a lot of the HPADers have the 450 though I think.

I've got the Sony alpha 200 and I love it. It takes fantastic outside shots. I've also used the Canon 450 because we have the one at work and I love that one too.

Edited to add that we got a great deal at Jessops.

I have the US equivalent of the 450D (a Rebel XSi) and I love it, check out www.camerapricebuster.co.uk for best prices.

I've got a 450d and I would definitely recommend it. A lot depends on what lens you use though.

Have you got the standard 15mm-55mm lens then? Or another one?
