dubai honeymoon

LalaC1988, 7 June, 2014 at 10:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

We are thinking of changing our honeymoon plans and going to dubai in October as we've come into a little wedding donation just wondering if anybody has ever been to dubai and whether they would recommend it? Also what are the best things to do and things to not bother with? We want to do a mix of middle range prices and also bulk food out with some cheap meals such as the odd mc Donalds etc are things such as that available easily and are essentials such as water a reasonable cost in the resort? We will b going October and have been told it's about 30 degrees? And aparinately that's one of the cooler months.

Any help much appreciated :-)

You want to go on honeymoon to a place where being kissy-lovey with your new husband might get you arrested?

Tbh the reason we wanted to go is we do a couple of beach holidays each year so we want something special to stand out in memory we have friends who go to dubai a couple of times a year we just wanted other opinions of it they've never really had issues and are quite friendly in the sense of they hold hands in public and may share the odd peck, after all there's closes doors for honeymoon behaviour!

Even if you ignore the human rights abuses and environmental impact, I personally can't understand why anyone would want to go to Dubai when there are so many beautiful beaches in the world with fantastic food, music, culture and sights. I don't really fancy going to an artificial city in the desert where I could be arrested for kissing my husband or drinking alcohol in public. But I've never been, so maybe Dubai has some charm I'm not aware of...

This is why I don't understand the appeal of Dubai, especially for a honeymoon.

If you're looking for a desert, I'd go Las Vegas! Another one who doesn't see the appeal of Dubai. I also understand (my colleague just got back from there) that you can only really travel anywhere by taxi, and it's expensive and slow.

Where were you going to go in October?

    You did ask ?

Dubai is not for me either, it doesn't appeal at all I'm afraid but neither does any hot beachy/desert type place.

I have a positive of view of Dubai !

I used to live there in the 80's but have been back twice in recent years, most recently in February this year.

I absolutely love it ! There is more to it than just a beach and lots of rules.

i would recommend an evening dinner cruise on a dhow, a dune bashing safari, a trip to the gold souk, Brunch on the Friday and afternoon tea in Burj Khalifa or Burj Al Arab.

I have never been with H but I know plenty of couples that have been and not had a problem.

it is not the cheapest of places to visit but you can easily access McDonald's, Burger King etc should you wish.

As for getting about, they now have a monorail which is very efficient, clean and dirt cheap ! But taxis are pretty reasonable too

Thanks niche been told it's a bit like London with pricing and any other major city. I do see people's points about the idea of a dubai honeymoon being slightly out of the ordinary as I did used to imagine curling up on a beach in the Indian ocean which we will b doing next year for our proper honeymoon I just hardly get any holidays from work and haven't many left this year because of the wedding so we thought a little more out the picture. I have travelled to other 'strict' counties so it won't be too much of a shock think it's just a case of watching your conduct I don't drink anyway and neither does hubby to be so that's not really a concern.

Do apologise if my comment was a bit rude y day spent most of it in a and e with my clumsy hubby to be and his broken arm.. was there until 4 am this morning! !

I've been to Dubai twice with family. Second time stayed at Atlantis the Palm which was amazing but pricey. Yes its a completely artificial city but it's fun in an OTT way. There are some good waterparks including at Atlantis, skiing in the mall, shopping, the souk, the tower (forgotten it's name). When you are in hotel resorts they are fine about you drinking. Obviously there are the issues others have mentioned but thought I'd highlight some positives.

Oh just to say in terms of eating out, it's mainly in the hotels or the malls etc. The mall had fast food type places, don't know how easy these places are to find elsewhere.

We are going to Abu Dhabi/Dubai for 6 nights straight after our wedding- we've been wanting to go for years and as we are planning to drive Route 66 this time next year we just wanted to get away straight after the wedding.

We are not a very touchy feely couple and everyone we know that's been has told us what an amazing time we will have- very excited

    :-)

You wont get arrested. I've been out and about in Dubai and it's fine, and I've had some truly amazing nights. They're only strict if you have sex or frolic about in public, which is understandable. Dubai is truly an amazing place, you'll be blown away. There's so much to do and see, and all the hotels are just stunning. It's reasonably cheap. October is a great month to go in, we made the mistake of going in summer when it was hitting around 49 degrees. Unbearable, but we then went in October and it was perfect. If Dubai was such a strict place, you would hear about people getting arrested all the time. I have friends in Dubai who go out and have fun all the time, and none of them have ever been arrested or been in trouble with the law. I highly recommend you go.

We went for 4 days after the wedding on our way to China. It was good but very expensive. We are not a lovey dovey couple so the lack of contact etc. was not a problem. All our meals were expensive but we don't like McDonalds type food so that was not an option. You do need to dress modestly covering kness and shoulders. Again this doesn't really bother me. The mono-rail was cheap and easy to use but doe not go everywhere. If you need taxis they are slow and not very cheap.

We did enjoy it but I don't think I would rush back. China was much more our thing.
