    Hi

    I went about 20 years ago on the ferry and wasn't that impressed but then -we went there about 6 years ago and I have to admit to have been looking at flights out for our anniversary it was far easier for us on the plane only about 30 mins from Manchester!. It can be quite pricey in the centre but we loved every minute so it was worth it. We went for 4 nights and as ever I drew up an schedule !! I should have saved it. There is lots to see and when we went the weather was fine so we just walked everywhere. there's loads of really interesting sights and it's full of history. It was the first holiday we had properly been on just together and although I sorted out where we were going H was more than grateful - think he thought I had gone a bit over the top but he found the museums, history parts fascinating. Plus the entertainment in the evenings was great.

    Places of interest - Dublin Castle; The Writers Museum (with audio guided tou); The General Post Office is a must (Easter Rising etc) the Government Buildings are open at certain time but we just walked past due to too much security; Kilmainham Gaol - we had a great irish guide take us round and you'll want to watch "In the name of the Father" if you've not seen it - think they filmed some of the Italian Job there too!

    have a wander along O'connell Street. We stayed in the Temple Bar are which was quite noisy if that is something that would bother you but in a very small area you would be amazed as to how many different types of restaurants there are - traditional to Lebenese - fantastic choice and great choice of bars.

    Also take a trip to the Guiness Museum and go up the tower - nice view and you get a free drink at the top but I had to give mine away as I hate the stuff.

    Enjoy and hope this hasn't bored you.....I have just nicely posted a similar question on USA so fingers crossed I get a response.

    Thank you so much! We are staying in the temple bar area, above a pub, hahaha, so im going to Boots to buy ear plugs for us both. However, the Porterhouse bar is apparantly far better than Temple Bar according to hubby....how he ever thought this would be the break he needs, i'll never know! I'm more worried about putting my cat to the shelter for 4 days, poor baby, hes gonna hate us....... i'll go and look at the linky.

    thanks again!

    Thankyou maryline, thats really appreciated...we did fancy going to see Dara O'briain but think hes sold out till sept..... that alone told me that dublin must be huuuuuuuuge if he can play enough gigs in the city over such a long period of time, Unless venues hold last min tickets......

    part of me wants to plan a few things, but for the most part im happy to see where my feet take me...

    I spent a while in Dublin with work and you must try and get to either or both of these restaurants;
