Dull: excel help needed please

badkitti*, 10 January, 2009 at 09:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I am making a spreadsheet to log the days my staff work and when they are absent due to illness or emergency.

The days worked I mark with a one and then just add up using the sum function

So far I've just been filling the absence days blue. Is there a formula that will let me count the number of blue cells?

Or can anyone suggest a better way of doing it?

I was taught excel as more of a graph calculation thing rather than an admin thing.

Thanks in advance Excel Gurus

You could try a countif function instead. So mark days worked with a 1 and days absent with a 2. Then in the cell where you have your SUM at the moment, replace it with COUNTIF(A1:A25,"1")which will total days worked and then COUNTIF(A1:A25,"2") which will give you days absent. Does that make sense?
