Dullsville- Henry vacuum cleaners/other sorts

Knownowt, 15 February, 2009 at 13:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

I need a new vacuum cleaner. It should be a cylinder type (do I mean cylinder? I mean the ones where you hold the cleaning bit only and the other bit sits there) not an upright, as we have lots of stairs. It also needs to be reasonably light. I don't want a Dyson as was unimpressed with our last one.

Am thinking of getting a Henry, on the basis that lots of cleaners seem to use them so presumably they are quite reliable- our vacuum cleaners always seem to break down for some reason (not overuse ?)

Any thoughts?

We have a henry. before that i had another non-upright one (no idea who made it, i bought it because it was purple. ?) i can't say that one is better than the other tbh although the henry is quite robust and has been going for well over a decade.

i use one of those black and decker hand helds on the stairs as the hoover is still a ball ache to use on stairs even if its not an upright...trying to balance it on a step when you're halfway up is no fun.

A decade is amazing- ours always break after about a year ?

My mum got at least 10 years out of her George (Herny's big brother ?) and that was during the time we had a black labrador and all carpets. She has a Dyson ball now and finds it much lighter and easy to use but has only had it for about a year so can't compare it's life span.

My MiL has a Henry, she's had it for the whole time I've known her (8 years) and it's still going strong.

I threw my Dyson away in disgust after a few light knocks pretty much smashed it to pieces. I now have a lovely pink Hetty who is uber-efficient and makes cleaning fun! She's Henry's girlfriend, and has fluttery eyelashes too ?

I have a George (Henry but shampoos too!) and he is wonderful, I love him! By far the best hoover I've had.

Miele - bought ours on the Which recommendation. Like you, we seemed to but a new vacuum cleaner ever year.
