Dusting off the cobwebs to ask about wedding blessings!

Pina Colada, 14 August, 2013 at 00:50 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all, I planned my first wedding here back in 2005... Didn't turn out so good but life is peachy right now and I'm currently planning to be married in September - yes this year!

My other half is currently living in NZ and I'm here with him right now. We head back to the UK on 1st September and a registry office wedding is proving nothing but stress and hoops to jump through. We're toying with the idea of doing the 'legal bit' here and then organising a blessing in my mum;s garden where we'll actually exchange rings and vows with everyone in attendance.

Any idea how much this would cost and if it would even be possible at this short a time scale?

Thanks!

My humanist celebrant gave us a wonderful ceremony that we structured and wrote with her, we had very personal aspects and vows. It was beautiful. None of our guests had been to one before and loved it! That cost us £600 but to us it was well worth the money. We did the legal bit separately and considered the ceremony our 'real wedding'. You can choose anywhere for that type of ceremony. I highly recommend it!

Our humanist celebrant is £400. You can look for your nearest one on their website.

Where in the UK will you want your blessing to be? Perhaps we can help source a registrar/humanist. Sounds like a great idea and very intimate. Good Luck x

    Thanks all!

Home is the Isle of Wight; I have found someone who can help us out as an independent celebrant for the seemingly low cost of £250 Smiley smile

We've decided to do the 'legal bit' here and we are booked in for 9am Tuesday morning (10pm Monday evening UK time!).

Everything else is wide open to us now for 14th September - eek! Time to get planning - any ceremony ideas and experiences/stories welcome!

Hi! We're doing the same as my H2B and I are currently living in Kuwait. Even though we're both British, In order together married in the uk we need to be there at least 3 weeks before which we both cannot do! We're having a a renewal of vows ceremony in the uk and everything else will be the same as a normal wedding....white dress, dad walking me down the aisle etc. Totally sucks but there's nothing we can do so just going down in jeans to th Embassay to sign the papers followed by a nice meal. We're having our real big day in the UK. Our registrar is £160 so cheaper than the actual marriage ceremony which is over £300. Good luck with everything Smiley smile
