Flowery the Grouch, 28 July, 2009 at 16:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

Fark me it's hard. 25 mins nearly killed me.

And I had it on medium, not hard.

I am soooo unfit ?

    I know!!

I bought it a couple of weeks ago and ached for 2 days after my first 30min work out (I think it was the squats that did it!!)

Well it knocks wii-fit into a cocked hat. It gives a much more structured work-out - I started the 30-day challenege thingy today, and did a 25-min workout that comprised 16 sections - some jogging, squats, lunges, punching etc.

It is like an interactive exercise video really, and there seems to be a huge variety of different combinations/lengths of work-out. I don't know how good it would be for some-one who is fit and goes to the gym/running regularly, but for a couch potato like me it made me v out of breath and sweaty - so it must be doing something!

    Nope, it's this one.

I just made Mr FtG do it - he looked as fresh as a daisy when he had finished. Whereas I was red and sweaty.

Well I'm definitely not fit and haven't even 'unlocked' half the things on Wii Fit so I'm guessing I would be panting by the end of it too

Its not the resort one, its more like a personal trainer, unfortunately this does mean that you get a really annoying/patronising american person giving you encouragement! Luckily I have found the OFF button for the personal trainer and now find it a lot less annoying.

Is it worth getting if you have my fitness coach? (which is brilliant but exhausting)

    I don't know - I don't have my fitness coach ?

Does My fitness coach use the wiimote and nunchuck to sense how you are doing the exercises/repitions etc? the sports active one has a little holster for the nunchuck bit that you fasten around your leg, so it can tell how fast you are running/how deep the lunges/squats are etc.

I'm watching this with interest as I can't decide whether to get EA Sports or the Wii Fit.....I do go the the gym once a week and try to run at least twice as well but I want something I can do indoors (I have my Wii set up in my office for quiet times).

Has anyone got both and if so which do they prefer?

    Hope you recover soon Flowery

Wii fit is much more gamey, sports active is much more like a structured exercise class.

Wii fit has yoga, which i don't like as it's too easy to do it wrong, "strength" exercises which are ok, and then balance and aerobics games. You can pick and chose what you like doing, and ignire bits you don't.

sports active has loads more exercises, and set workouts (you can take out the bits you don't like, but I'm not doing that) so you do the next exercise that comes up, which seem to be quite varied, and focussing on different things.

30 mins on sports active and I am dripping and very red in the face. I can spend 30 mins playing on wiifit, be a bit out of breath, and fool myself that I have been exercising as i ignore the jogging and the bits I don't like, and just play the fun games.

But then it seems there is a new wii fit - wii fit plus - coming in November, which seems to solve some of those issues. I don;t think i will be getting it - i think i have enough with sports active at the moment ?

I'm going to be starting this Flowery when we come back from holiday. No point IMO starting before as it's a 30 day challenge. Am just walking outside ATM to ease myself into it gently again. I've had so much on my plate that I've let things slip - and it shows ?

There are plenty of other workouts that aren't in the 30 day challenege - you could do those before you go!

    Sorry ?

But I'm the queen of "i'll start after Christmas" "i'll start in a the new year" "I'll start on the 1st of the month" "i'll start when my period finishes" "I'll start on monday".

    And i never do.

But with this i just said sod it, I'm starting now. And I did. And I kept going (so far...)

I have just bought the wii sports active today - not used it yet.

I got the wii fit a couple of weeks ago and as a real lard bucket and very unfit I do find stuff like the boxing on it quite knackering. But I have heard that the sports active is better, but I wanted the balance board for the wii fit hence I have both.

I have heard my fitness coach is quite good and it's way cheaper than the sports active but everything I've read suggests the sports active is better.

I used it for the first time on Sat and on Sunday I felt like someone had ripped my legs off and stuck them back on - the wrong way. Could hardly walk and am only back to normal today.

So haven't even done day 2 yet!

Bought H the sports resort game last week to tempt him away from Call of Duty. Not worked yet!

I have now bought this on your recommendation Flowery, and an accessory kit so I can bully encourage H to join in with me... now just need to start! I did have a quick go at the low impact routine and I was knackered at that - I'm going to be in pain aren't I?!

I think I may get the sorts active - I find the wii fit too 'bitty' - one thing for 5 mins then another. And this sounds like hard work, which is what I need. The main problem I have is that my dogs come and stand right by us if we're doing wii things. We forever claim them as excuses for bad throws at bowling.

Has anyone tried the new tennis game - that looks pretty good too

Yes, Mr P has about 4 tennis games - got the latest ones for his birthday last week. He loves them and plays every day.

I just did the 20 min "easy" workout on the EA Active. OMG! I am just knackered! Feel like I've had a good workout though.

? <------- this is the colour of my face at the moment!

How's everyone getting on at this now? I bought it on Friday and am on day 3 of the challenge (rest). Today is the first day I feel a bit achy after last night's work out. I've only done the low intensity ones up to now and while it leaves me a little breathless the main thing I have noticed is I am sweating buckets... like really, a LOT is it just me? ?
