Early arrival of dress

Blackkat, 3 December, 2009 at 22:41 Posted on Planning 0 4

I ordered my wedding dress in September and as my wedding isn't until July the lady in the shop said she'd defer the dress so it wouldn't get delivered until April. So I was more than a bit surprised to get a letter today to say my dress was in & that I have to pay & collect it within 2 weeks! I hope I can sort this out as my mum is paying the balance on my dress but she won't be able to afford this now & neither can I this close to christmas. Has anyone had any experience of this? I have emailed her so hopefully we can come to some sort of arrangement. The problem is that I don't have any written evidence of this agreement.

Its weird, I expected the arrival of my dress to be an exciting experience but unfortunately, much like my dress shopping experience with my negative family, it hasn't exactly turned out the way I imagined.

Thanks for letting me share x

Wow that is speedy! Hope you can come to an arrangement. I ordered my dress in April and i've been informed that it won't be in until August! I wish it came in a bit earlier. I think our shops need to have words and meet in the middle. On the plus side, you'll get to see your dress again. x

Blackkat I'm not sure what the procedures are but surely if you agreed with them the dress will be deferred they should simply hold it for you until april? they can't really turn around and say well' actually we could use this money now... if you see what I mean.

I normally wouldn't recommend anyone get a credit card, but in an emergency you could get one with the first six months intrest free, pay the dress and then cut up the card so you aren't tempted to use it again. In the current climate if a dress is in I would grab it.

Actually I would agree with that 3D. Especially if its interest free - you won't be paying more than you should.

My sisster had the same experience, her dress came in earlier than expected, but she had to pick up the dress within 4 weeks of it arriving - which was stipulated on the terms and conditions she signed when she ordered the dress.

Did you sign anything like this? Any reputable bridal shop should give you paperwork to sign! It is also worth remembering that bridal shops have little storgae space and so cannot afford to keep a lot of dressed stored on the premisis - and may not have insurance for any dresses that are not 'sample stock' so you are better of collecting now!
