Easter break suggestions

pandorasbox, 31 March, 2014 at 13:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

We are thinking of trying to find a nice hotel somewhere during the Easter break, just for one night or maybe two if it is a bargain.

Can anybody suggest a town or city to visit? We've done York, Chester, Warwick, Derby, Peaks and Leicester quite a bit, so would like to try somewhere new. Generally speaking we would be looking for somewhere picturesque, historical/old worlde vibe, walks available if nice weather, or quaint town/village centre to drink tea in if weather is miserable. Not bothered for loads of activites or shopping centres etc, I am mainly into sleeping and having a bath and H is happy wherever if he has me and the ipad!

I don't really want to go a million miles from the Manchester area as driving long journeys at the mo can make me feel quite sick.

Must haves for us pair of giants are king size beds. A bonus would be if the place had spa treatments available! Thanks if you can give me some ideas.

I was going to suggest Bath but that's a trek from Manchester.

How about somewhere in the Peak District? Bakewell?

Thanks. I'm looking at a spa hotel near Edale now. Bakewell and Tideswell and surrounding area etc have been done to death by us as have friends close by, should've put that in the OP.

I would love to go to Bath but as well as it being about 4 hours drive ? all the nice hotels (with big beds) seem super expensive. It looks such a pretty place though!

Or Oxford if it's not too far?

What about the Lake District, Bowness or somewhere, lots of nice little shops, nice restauarants, and tea and cake aplenty!

Shropshire? I'm a bit biased but I do think it's nice for a short break. I'd recommend Shrewsbury or Ironbridge in particular.

I am currently examining holiday cottages in Northumberland but suspect that's too far for you?

Yes yes, and which border would this be that you are referring to?

I am crap with Geography so I won't even suggest anywhere for you, but you mention getting a bit carsick lately. Why not consider a wee train trip to get wherever you decide to go. That could be quite nice and relaxing.

I am totally rubbish at geography but what about looking on somewhere like 'lastminute' and make it a kind of surprise where you go??

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I really fancy Cambridge and Bath but the fancy hotels are way out of price range and cheaper hotels mean squashing into a tiny regular double bed. Not on with my 6ft 7, 19 stone husband! We have now found a very reasonable but swish room round Stratford way where we can have a swim too.
