Easyjet question (flying early in morning)

texasgirl26, 18 August, 2009 at 20:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0

Hi

I am flying to Belfast tomorrow for a quick meeting. I've never flown Easyjet before, so not familiar with their boarding policy. The flight departs at 07.10, so I want to get there as late as possible (more time in bed!). I have checked in online.

However, I am slightly confused about the times on the boarding pass. It says that gate closes at 06.40am. I have a speedy boarding pass, so presume that I get some sort of first choice of seats.

Does this mean that the gate closes and therefore no-one boards after 6.40 or they will begin boarding (and I need to be at the gate) no later than 6.40? If they begin earlier than 6.40, anyone have any idea what time they would start boarding?

I fly back and forth to America, but because it is the US I am always there a couple of hours before and it is never an issue. The Easyjet website just says that for Speedy Boarding you need to be at the gate 25 minutes before the flight leaves, but that doesn't seem to fit with what is printed on the boarding pass.

Any clarification would be great if anyone flys regularly or works for Easyjet!

Thanks in advance

TG

We fly wit easyjet a LOT. It does vary a bit airport by airport though. Here (Geneva) they tend to start boarding about 30 mins before the flight is due to take off. They never, ever close the gate 20 mins before it is due to take off - often they are still boarding right up to the last minute, or longer.

At luton they tend to start boarding a bit later, but open the queues at the gate earlier (at luton you show your boarding pass then queue, so they open the gate a while before the plane is ready, here you queue (well, join in the mass scrum) then show your boarding pass and go right onto the plane, so they don't open the gate until the plane is there).

Leave plenty of time for security. At that time I wouldn't have thought it would be too bad, but you can never tell. I'm always surprised by security at Luton. At times/on days when i think it will be quick it takes forever, when I think it's going to be slow and hideous it's really fast.

If I were in your position I would probably aim to be at the airport no later than 1 hour before the flight, and aim to be at the gate 30 mins before.
